Our Lord's day meeting is often over two hours, from 09:00 to 11:15. How long is the church meeting you regularly attend? How long is too long, how short is too short?

Depends on the preaching and style of service. My husbnd, a preacher, said that most of the time that sermons should be no more then 15 to 20 minutes long because you tend to lose the peoples attention. And I have found this to be true. (Ever notice how the people start getting figity around this time?) This being said I will also say that this doesn't always hold true. There have been times that a preacher can hold my attention for a much longer time. As for a total amount of time for a service depends alot on the speaker and the congregation. Just because a service is long doesn't mean it is a good one. I have been in services where the music went on and on and on. Same with prayers and sermons. Knowing how to balance each elemnent of the service so the congregation doesn't get restless and lose interest is key. You can say a lot in a short amount of time if you do it right. Here is an example. My husband was asked to speak at our annual church conference about what it meant to be a chaplain in the military. He was given five minutes. After he spoke the main speaker was to speak about a half hour. After talking for five minutes about how the Lord was using him as a military chaplain my husband got a standing ovation. As for the guy who spoke after him no one commented much about his sermon afterwards. Dan was mobbed after the service. So length of time is not really important but getting the message across in the alotted amount of time is. The service I attend is usually over in about an hour and a half.

I definitely agree, we in the meetings encourage everyone to speak 3 minutes each and an attendance of 25 would already reach 1 hour and 15 minutes with everyone speaking. Usually, many speak only for 1-2 minutes and sometimes one or two would speak 5-10 minutes.

Even though I guess I'm offically a christian I never go to church, I think a normal service takes a bout 2 hours.

Most of our church meetings which are held in the evenings are just one and a half hours from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Children's meetings are normally only an hour.
