did we really need a ..6th? (i've lost track) version of king kong?in the last couple of years,it seems like they been over re-doing.
war of the worlds,the hitcher,when a stranger calls,the wicker man,the omen (!),the fog,the shaggy d.a.(tho slightly changed) to name a few.i mean,come on.
some of these movies didn't need "updating".
another is freaky friday.they're on the third version.
please..i didn't like the first version.
i want NEW movies for what they're charging nowadays.

The worst part was when they
had the writer's strike and movie companies
had to start putting out remakes of everything.
Cause they didn't have new scripts so they
had to use the old scripts from years ago
and do remakes.
Now there are rumors of an actors strike.
Yeah right! As if those Hollywood bozos
don't already get enough cash for doing the job.

It seems that Hollywood has gotten lazy with coming up with new movies, & then they blame filesharing for their woes. The music industry is also in a similar rut. Release crappy stuff that does not sell very well, but instead, they look for excuses, such as people downloading.

hmpf.they got nerve blaming filesharing for some of their crap writing LOL
i definetly agree on the music-the industry is screwed up on that.though, things like youtube? they should make that a pay system to settle their copyright-even .90 cents minimum say-i and many other people would be more than willing to pay something to see old tv shows on demand, instead of just yanking them off the site.
while i'm not advocating youtube's free for all system,
i will say i had seen some great things on there, clips i
most likely never would have seen otherwise.

I will agree with you in certain circumstances that these remakes that Hollywood keeps churning out seem to be pretty unnecessary. I think there are some movies that just should have been left alone and never remade at all. Others I wish they had remade because the original was terrible. I rather enjoyed the updated versions of movies like "The Hills Have Eyes", "King Kong" and "War Of The Worlds". What I don't necessarily agree with is Hollywood putting a remake out of an old movie and disguising it under a new title or name. I've read reviews where they say that "This movie is basically a remake of so and so..." and then they go on to compare it to the original. I really dislike that the majority of Hollywood is so hooked on making remakes or sequels that they stories are becoming thinner and less interesting.
I recently rented a copy of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning" and I was hoping it would have been a half decent horror movie. To my dismay I was really disappointed in the quality of the story and the characters involved in this movie. At the end I was left feeling like it had just wasted an hour and a half of my life and that I watched something that had no point to it whatsoever. I would have rather rented a fresh new horror movie with a character who had a unique twist to him. Instead I was put through another cookie cutter style horror movie. I would have liked it had they done something different with the outcome or overall storyline to make it unlike anything Hollywood had put out before.
I remember watching a horror movie called " The Descent" and I was more impressed with the direction and storyline of this one instead. It was a more unique idea with some elements I've found the majority of Hollywood's horror movies missing. Perhaps this was because it was not actually created in Hollywood. If I remember correctly it was in fact an Australian or British production overall. The movie had influences of American cinema but did not copy a movie that had already come out in the same genre. It was a refreshing film in a genre that really was lacking much originality since I think "The Ring" came out.
I also have found that when there is one movie in a genre like "The Ring" that is such a revolutionary idea, after it comes out a bunch of films will follow that borrow the same formula. Look at the movies that flooded the market the minute "The Ring" was successful. Every Japanese horror movie that was made was remade by the same director and released in America. I remember going to see a movie by the name of "Dark Water" which was a film that had originated in Japan. The movie was almost three hours or less of pointlessness and when it was done. I know that both me and my other half walked out completely disappointed in how bad the movie was.
What Hollywood needs to do is to stop the cookie cutter movie machine and really begin to employ writers and directors that have some fresh ideas. They need to tap into the independent film pool and pull out some of the writers and directors from there. I'm sure they would be enough to invigorate Hollywood with some new ideas and fresh approaches to stories and stop all of the remakes from flooding theatres. It's too much when every movie season a new version of some old movie comes out promising a new perspective on an old classic. It's just another description to me for a movie that will end up disappointing in the end.
In conclusion, I feel that by getting some new talent that is more interested in creating their own ideas as opposed to copying previous films, it might be enough to truly stop the Hollywood remake machine. I believe that Hollywood would be better off in the long run to invest more money in independent films than that of the more mainstream films! . .
Thanks for allowing me to share! xx

the ring-oh i loved that movie.very refreshing.
i definetly agree about the cookie cutter movies-that's almost as bad.
the independant/foreign market films-some of them that have come out have been absolutely brilliant.i find myself watching the independant film channel more and more nowadays.
now something like a restoral-as was "metropolis"
while not a remake,rather a re-issue,i don't mind that.
the giorgio morder (sp?) version they sought out clipped out scenes, added music, and color in places..now that was cool.the movie that was cut down to 80 min from near 2 hrs,
was back to at least 122 min.
i hope someday they can find a full original somewhere.

Oh yea? This is life, man... They just want to milk the topic dry. Get as much money as they can out of it. Money is money and people (some) still like king kong enough to watch. :P
