The song is in reference to being gay and coming out.

IT is more that! It is about being proud of being gay, and proud of being comfortable in your own skin!

I agree, I'm sorry I shoud have written more. It is a beautiful song about being proud to be gay and not worrying about what other people think of you. - Life's not worth a damn till you can shout out, I am what I am! I don't know if you ever herd Shirley Bassey sing this song, if you haven't you must listen to it, she actually pulls you into the song with her, what a performance. She's one ol' time Diva!

You sure like the musicals! I am as much as myself as my surrounding allow me to be. I yearn to be all I am however am restricted by those around me. I know nothing else that what and who I am and always hope that others are the same. Alas it is often not that way. People pretending this or that and wondering why life is soooo hard. Sure is simple to pull no punches and hope for only good. My life is not done yet and so it remains to be seen what I ultimately end up as.

I definitely am what I am. Not always sure who I "should" be, so I'm not so confident about that!

Wow this could get very deep! I know I am who I am and that I am constently working to improve myself. I can't be anyone but myself but I could be a better me. Who I should be, I think I am but can't really honestly say forsure. I hope and pray that I am.

I am what I am and what you see is what you get. I have always worn my heart on my sleeve. Sometimes that is a good thing, sometimes not. I am proud of who and what I am. I believe in treating people the way I want to be treated. I was brought up to show compassion, tolerance and forgiveness. I try to do all these things the best I can. I don't try to make myself better than I am. I don't do things to keep up appearances. If I didn't live my life to be myself, well, I would be living my life for someone else. That would not make me happy.
I think I answered your question, but just in case....yes I am who I should be.
God Bless
