playing role playing games on the internet and how much time is too much time?

My husband and I are very seperated on this issue and i would like some input from people outside the family. I have a 15 year old son who is not very socially active, does not have alot of friends and the one thing he does enjoy and the only thing I can motivate him with is time on the computer playing runescape, i joined the game so I could be involved with him in something he likes to do as well as i like. My husband does not like him on the computer for more than 2 to 4 hours during the week he goes to school and comes home to get on the game after his chores are done. I do not have a problem if he spends 8 or 10 hours playing the game if he has done what he needs to do. I feel that at least i know where he is and what he is doing. On the other hand my husband thinks he needs to be going out making friends or finding something else to interest him, I think he will outgrow this computer game playing thing but complaining about him being on the computer or forcing him to do other things is not what i feel to be the way to go. Is anyone else experiencing something similar or any suggestions. Thanks
