Before I thought smoking is cool. I did not mind my husband smoking around in our home. But Later on I heard more and more negative things happening due to smoking. One message is some baby got cancer because both his parents smokes at home. And a friend of my husband (they usually smokes together) got refused from a health insurance company because they found very high toxic substances in his blood. Since then, I began to asked my husband to quit. Especially when my dad got lung cancer and I read lung cancer loves heavy smokers, I can't help pushing him to stop smoking. Well there does be news that when someone stops smoking he somehow got cancer. I am now very confused.

Smoking does lead to long term health risks. If you are confused about the truth of smoking, here is a link for you to look at: http://www.lungusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=dvLUK9O0E&b=22938 It is the American Lung Association, and they have some excellent q&a on what smoking actually does to you.

I have never smoked nor had any desire to smoke. My father was a heavy smoker and my husband was a moderate smoker, but they both quit after health problems related to smoking began to affect their lives. I have noticed that when the mother in a home smokes, the children, especially girls, are more likely to take up smoking. I never could understand when people say they took up smoking because they thought it was cool. In our school, smokers were usually looked down on, kind of like they were losers. Maybe it is different in other parts of the country.

It never used to be, but more and more smoking is becoming a selfish habit. It has gone far past the point where you are only hurting yourself. Now, if you get sick from it, you are robbing your family of a mother, father, or husband or wife.

I started smoking in my teens because many of my friends were smokers and it seemed "cool". I finally quit a few years ago.
