I stepped on a branch from my orange tree, the spur went in pretty far, but no foreign matter is in there now, two days later it is swollen pretty big and I can't walk! I feel real dumb going to the E.R. for a poke with a thorn... any suggestions? I tried soaking my foot in saltwater, applying baking soda paste and neosporin but thats all I could think of. My crazy mother said there was poison in the tip and I will get gangreen then later it will fall off, (see how helpful SHE is). Real help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Nothing to be embarrassed about, I'm sure people have gone to ER for more 'interesting' things. You may need antibiotics or instructions on how to treat the infection. Elevate the foot etc. Better being safe than sorry, especially if it's not improving in the next day.

No I'm pretty sure it's not poisonous, I suggest you go to the doctors though to get it checked out as you may have a nasty infection. I have stabbed myself many times with lemon and orange tree spurs and they have sometimes become pusy but not as bad as yours sounds.
