I have a cat that is one year old or so. She needs to be "fixed",I'm in the process of getting the money together to do so. But my question is this she has been spraying alot around the house will this stop after she is "fixed"? My four year old daughter has epilepsy and possible cerebral palsy and she loves this cat and they are good together. The cat even sleeps on her belly at night. But if the operation isn't going to fix her spraying problem I don't know if I can take my house being a litter box. Can anyone give me some information on this or the name and number to a vet in Michigan that could answer my question.

As far as I know, only male cats spray. I could be wrong. If it is a female, is she just peeing in the wrong places? To answer your question, yes fixing a male cat is supposed to help stop the problem. If it is a female cat that is peeing out side of the litter box, there may be other things going on. All can be fixed. So don't fret, you won't have to get rid of your cat. Possible fixes: Do you have other animals in the house? Your cat may feel threatened and is therefore just marking the territority. If yes, perhaps the pets need some proper bonding time. The litter. Perhaps your cat does not like the litter or where it is placed. Cats need privacy too and make sure the litter box is not near the food. Or try and change the litter box. Ok, I've probably given you more than you need. But I hope I helped a little.

Thank you very much for the info. She is a female cat and she has also started scratching my child so hopefully this will stop also.

nicolec helped you with the spraying problem now... Is your cat actually scratching your child or just kneeding? Cats like to kneed with their front paws, etending their claws one paw at a time while purring. It's a sign of contentment. If so, you just need to make sure that either the blanket is between the cat's paws and your child or some other type of material. My cats kneed me all the time while having their motorboats going full speed. I feel honored that they are so content. Means they are happy with what I do for them.

Yes kneading is a good thing. My cat likes to wake me by patting me on the nose. Sometimes he has his claws extended and it hurts a little. It's annoying, but a sign of effection. So that's what you have to ask yourself, is it a sign of effection or malice?
