How many of you are earning through writing?

Do you think you can earn enough by writing? Most of us write as a hobby and don't know how to get the major breakthrough in making a living out of it. Many of us have our work published but still feel that a decent earning is real difficult to achieve. Yet,there are many who are actually successful writers in terms of both, quality and money. I am interested to know how many myloteers are earning by writing. What advice you have for other aspiring writers who want to make a living out of it? How many of you write just as a hobby?

I make my living as a freelance writer and a screenplay writer. I saw someone else mentioning Associated Content, it is a pretty good site and I have used it before as well.

I am earning a decent living considering where I live. My goal is to earn $25 a day, which would put me in the lap of luxury! However at the moment I am making between $10-$15 a day. :( But it is also only my second week with internet at home so I can really work. And I am probably spending way too much time here on Mylot where the earnings are pretty low! lol

Great topic for a newbie...I love to write and I have some books started I would like to someday publish as soon as I get over my professionalist DISORDER! sorry...no pun intended there...I have a history of shares ...caring...and love I find easier to put into words on a page rather than saying them. This has helped me to grow...as well as helped so many others . I have a couple of sites I love to write for ...esp. Lavender Power and care2. I never knew how to write until I started my own recovery yet 10 yrs ago...and I enrolled in college . the major I took as well as the experience of learning again was exceptional experience for me. thanks again...like I stated I love to talk ! but I try to keep peace within now with writing .my family loves me for this! hehehehe! peachez

We write at Mylot and get some compensation so why not write elsewhere and get paid more of what we are worth. I have 3 articles submitted at another site and we will see if they are worth pursuing. I have established two sites for freelance work and have submitted them to search sites and so we will see what is out there. There does seem to be work out there for people willing to put the effort into finding it and completing assignments in a timely manner in the way they are instructed to do so. Kind of like Mylot although it is only pocket money here.

I'm not a writer but a bookseller and like every other bookseller in the world I always had a secret desire to publish something. So I signed on at Associated Content and just published two articles. I have four more pending and a new one I'm working on. I have no illusions about making a living as a writer but it is gratifying, I'm enjoying it and I guess I can now say that I've published something. Only problem is that the ideas I'm expanding into these little articles are the ideas I would otherwise have used to post on Mylot so I haven't posted anything new in awhile. LOL

I KNOW what you mean. I always wanted to be a writer, then I worked at a bookstore for 4 years man you want to write even more. I think I got more book ideas during my time there then any other time. Plus I knew about the latest books. I am actually gonna start working again at a local Barnes & Noble starting next week. Same company as before, different place. Hope to be inspired again really soon :))

Currently I write as a hobby but I am working up to getting paid. I still love to enter poetry contests. Although I hear its harder to make a living as poet only. Its okay. I have book ideas I am working on. I havent published anything truly. But I am aiming for it. I know lots of people make money writing. There is a book called "The Well Fed Writer" which is really interesting. I own that one but not the second one "Back for Seconds". They are supposed to be good to get you into writing part time or full time. So it CAN be done. But dont promise lots of money. The other opition is work on books while you do another job part time. Then you can get it published eventually and get the benefits from the money from when its published. My future career will be a broadcast journalist. A wonderful job for a writer! Plus as said lots of book and poetry ideas! :))

well i live in a country that does not give a lote of oppurtunitis if at all of earning monet through online writing..so i only write in mylot. but my profession iswritting. and i so work as a freelancer at this profession. here you really do not get much money by doing that so you also have to work in a regular job. so if to ansewr your question' my proffesion is writing but unfortunatly i do not make a living of it because of life and it's limitations in my country.

My first story was published and got little money. Inspired by this I ventured writing more stores but none of this except one published. Subsequently I realised I cannot make living by writing stories. Now a days I am making (not writing)a story which underwent thousand modifications for the last 5 years. Still not fully satisfied as I want to send this story for renewed publication house for publishing. I do not know how many years it will take for me getting the satisfation for publishing it.

Hi Melody I'm in the same boat as you are I just started working from home I've always wanted to be a writter I've been writting for maybe 15 years maybe less I started writting in grade nine I don't know where to search for an editor and so forth. Writting for me right now is a hobby ,but it's more then that it's a passion my advice is find an publisher if you have your story all together and be careful where you go you don't want someone taking your ideas. Just make sure you get a copy write once the books put together. Sometimes you have to make the time to write if you really love it. Take care

I do not earn by writing. cos I know my English is not so good or good enough to write to earn money. I admire those people who can earn money or a living by this way. I hope I can do this in the future.:)

I write primarily to serve God and help people understand the Word of God. I am a Christian, a child of God, baptized into Christ on October 1, 1989 and I belong to the Church of Christ founded and headed by Christ as shown in Acts Chapter 2. I am given the gift of knowledge and understanding Bible Greek and I translate the Word of God from Greek to English PLAINLY - Greek word into its English equivalent with additional words for grammar purposes written in italics so that readers may delete them when they so desire. I have already published GENESIS, EXODUS, LEVITICUS (Greek-English), THE WILL New Testament (Greek to English), ELEMENTS of SALVATION, The Right Way, GOD, ORIGIN, TRANSFER into PERFECTION, GREEK-ENGLISH (Grammar & Vocabulary), WORDS in THE WILL New Testament, and others shown at http://www.lulu.com/arseniajoaquin I have seen the versions being circulated worldwide and they are generally admitted to be 80% NOT translations. My translations are 99.99% translations and I see the truth, beauty, and sweetness of the Word of God. I hope these books could also help people understand the Word of God and be saved. Some copies are sold and I hope that more will be sold when the books are placed on the Global Distribution Service. I expect a lot of money to come from the books so I donated THE WILL New Testament (Greek to English) to the Alpha Omega Seniars Intl Foundation, Inc. for senior citizens, widows, orphans, disabled, poor intellectuals, etc. I'm also donating at least 20% of the proceeds from other books that I publish. As soon as I finish GENESIS TO DEUTERONOMY (Greek-English), I intend to donate it to the Church.
