How big is your eco footprint?

I read somewhere that Americans leave the biggest footprint on this here only planet we have, nearly twice the size of Europeans. Meaning they do the most damage. I think we all should do what we can to reduce the mark we leave regardless of where we are. I'd like to know what do you do to help Mother Earth every day?

I walk to work, because if you can walk some place within less than half an hour, why drive??? Also, I like to pickup garbage on the way to work because it makes the streets look cleaner! I like to try to make as little waste as posseible, and recycle all my beverage bottles.... the 3 r's are a big thing in my life! (reduce, reuse, and recycle)

it's nice when one can walk to work, not only good for the planet but good for the body as well.

I recycle I use a Mooncup (a re-useable menstrual cup) I use public transport where possible (in rural locations though, it's not regular enough to use for everything, and doesn't go everywhere you need to) I compost I grow fruit and veg I use energy saving lightbulbs I share my bath ;) I work for Lush. :D I don't leave the tap running when I brush my teeth (pet hate) I care passionately about farming conditions for animals. I buy local food from ethical farmers. I re-use a lot of packageing. I keep a fabric bag in my handbag to use instead of carrier bags. (any plastic carriers are re-used, for bin liners or picking up dog poop, or sorting my recycling.) lots more. I'm sure I'll think of later.

wow quite a list. Actually I do a lot of those things too but I forget that they actually are good for the planet, we just do them cuz they make sense, like composting. We started doing it so the trash doesn't stink not cuz we wanted compost.... What is Lush btw?

a company that make handmade cosmetics with lovely natural ingredients (some synthetic, but not in anything like the amounts used by most companies) it's not tested on animals, and no ingredient is bought from a company that tests anything on animals. they don't operate a fixed or rolling cut off date, so it's a real incentive for companies to stop, as they will start buying from them as soon as they stop the testing. a lot of the products come in solid forms, like shampoo in bars, bubble bath in a solid form, solid deodorants, solid massage oils etc, so this cuts down on packageing. it's a really really fantastic company.

For starters, i don't own a car, I don't buy prepackaged foods if I can buy the same quality fresh, I use flourescent instead of incandescent light bulbs. There are otherthingsI do that help but its well past midnight, and i can't think that well.

we own a car but don't drive it much. It's hard to haul groceries without a car and 2 kids in tow. Sounds like you need to turn off the light and get some sleep

I do try to help but I'm not making a big difference. I try not to use the lights and electricity when I don't need to and use energy saving bulbs. I try to walk when I can rather than using the car, but that isn't very easy as I live miles away from the town centre. I do recycle.

I think it all helps. I used to know people who tossed everything in the trash, glass, plastic bottles, just because they didn't want to deal with sorting it out and taking it to the recycle place. They had at least 1 large kitchen trash bag a day. And it may not seem like a lot but during the course of a year it does add up. There's a bid difference between a bag a day and a bad a month. I used to live a 20 min drive from town too, and it's impossible to walk that. Although my crazy husband used to ride his bike up and down our mountain to go to work. I believe awareness is growing. I have hope.
