Here is a hypothetical question, Both you and your friend are out of work and looking for a job, You hear of one, and both of you do the same kind of work, do you can for an interview and not tell your friend? or do you tell your friend as well knowing that it is possible the friend who didn't even know about the job might be selected over you?

I think I would let my friend know because if it's meant to be mine I'd get the job anyway. If my friend got the job I would be happy for her/him. I would REALLY like to think my friend would give me the same consideration.

I would tell them and who ever was best for the job would get it! Or perhaps neither of us would!

You know, this happened to me...While i was working as a receptionnist in a furniture store, i became friends with this girl. Not best friends, but we got along pretty well, always chit chatting together, laughing together, and so on. Both fed up of that current position, we were looking for jobs, but she didn't go on the same websites i did. So when i saw this job opening for a receptionnist position in a chiropractician's clinic, i sent my cv right away. She said she didn't find anything good where she was looking on the web, and i told her about the one i had seen. She asked me which website it was from, and then she checked it out herself. RIght away she sent her cv by fax too, and told me "We'll see who they call for an interview" and she was all happy to be competitioning with me! I was stunned. Of course, they called her in for an interview, she did have more experience than i did in the field. But, she didn't get the job. But just the fact, that she knew i was going for it, and went ahead and sent her cv upset me. So, from now on, i search jobs for myself only and no one else!

It would depend on how close I am to that friend. If their need was greater than mine, I would tell them about the job. The friend may have more or different skills than I do. It would be fair for the 2 of us to try for the job. One gets in and maybe if there was another opening sometime, she may put in a good word.

This just happened to me yesterday, after the interview I told this friend of this opportunity and advised him to go for the job interview. He did just that today. Let the best man win.

It depends. If the job is always hiring and people are always quitting and there isn't any competition, then we don't have any problems with that. My friend and I used to work at a call center answering inbound calls and selling entertainment tickets for customers. I was working there first and my friend followed. If me and my friend knew about the job, then we would look for another job because we don't want the job in the middle of our friendship.

I will definitely tell my friend even there is only one vacacy for that position. Letting one more person know the chance does not actually reducing my chance, and I do not mind my friend to be hired,I will be happy about him/her. May be next time yout friend will tell you he/she get another chance and ask you to try together.

I've been going for job interviews lately - for 4 different jobs over the past few months, but haven't been offered anything yet. I would let my friend know about the job. If I don't get the job, then maybe my friend would, & that would at least solve one problem!
