In your opinion which nations you think the best, the Eastern or the Western? Nations in the middle East too can be considered as East and it ends at Japan (the land of rising Sun!) Sorry, the Africa is excluded. The West comprises of the erstwhile USSR, Europe, Americas or Japan's other end in Pacefic. Your response can be broadened socially, politically, geographically, culturally, morally, technologically, financially and what not!! Though I know most of the responders would go with their motherland as the best, there would be few others with specific reasons to think the other way.

the East has provided many advances in medical, herbal and technological areas throughout many years, while the West has been considered pioneers in modernization and other advances. I am from the West, but I do not dare say the West is best. I believe we all contribute to the world in our own ways regardless of where we may hail from. I enjoy learning about so many other things from other cultures, that I would be harming only myself if I were to say my land is best and I have no need for others.

I totally agree with you and would like to add something. The modernization had started with mechanization or industrial revolution. It spread widely thoroughout West and (to some parts of East too, especially Japan) it severely affected the social and moral values in those regions. We began to depend more on machines disregarding our skills which lead to some sort of anarchy and drastic change in social systems. Unlike the West, East had a slow process of mechanization/modernization its effects too are slow. Colonozation too can be considered as another factor for change in social and moral values. I too am not trying to judge which is good or bad and I too agree with you that we all are mere contributors to the 'history' of mankind. And I would add that no matter as to where we are our BASIC needs, hopes, aspirations, sorrows are of similar nature.

East or west - is it important? The grass is always greener on the other side. I think both east and west have their pros and cons and it is really up to the individual how he chooses. :P

You are right lordwarwizard, but 'greener on the other side' can also be put in another way : the Jasmine in my garden never smells.
