A Misunderstanding..

This just goes to show how people think about others. Yesterday I was returning pop cans, and I took an empty cart out of a handicapped spot. There was a lady coming out of a car that was in another4 handicapped spot. She said you know it's real nice of you to take that cart out of a handicapped spot. I said I'm sorry, and continued on my way. I thought she meant that it was rude of me in case a handicapped person needed it for support. She said Miss, wait a minute. I stopped and turned around and she said I didn't mean that in a bad way. I meant that I wiosh more people thought like you. You're doing some handicapped person a favor by making sure that there is a parking spot available that may not have been. She then said it's kind of sad that you can't say things to people anymore without them automatically thinking you're putting them down. I thought about it and realized she's right, we really do live in a very rude society. What do you guys think?

I've had that happen to me before where I thought someone was being rude but they weren't. I don't know if society is more rude or if we're just more on the defensive and fearful. Sometimes though I think that a lot more people have a sense of entitlement and don't have much empathy for others but again maybe it's just the way I see it. One thing I've noticed with myself, when I have a more positive outlook and feel confident, then I have more positive encounters with people. I just try to keep this in mind whenever I go out.

That's a good outlook to have.
