I would wait to tell the children until I knew what to expect myself. I had a cancer scare a few years ago but it turned out to be nothing for now. I am still at risk though so it is pretty scary. I would want to make sure I would be strong enough to hold it together if I had to ever tell them.

Yeah I think your right, a person should arm themselves with knowledge and then will be able to answer or try to answer any questions that may arise.

I would tell your children immediately. Apart from the fact that they have the right to know they may need to do things in case its terminal. They are going to find out eventually you may as well tell them as soon as possible. you will be amazed at the capacity of children to absorb information and respond appriately. If one of my parents had cancer and may or will die as a result I would want to know. The time you have together will become very precious if the worst happens and they will regret not knowing forever. So give them the coourtesy of telling them. You are not protecting them if You dont tell them in fact its only a fools paradise and a temporary reprieve. Tell them ASAP you will also feel better not keeping such a secret!! Good luck!
