I have an 8 yr old that recently found out through a cousin of hers that the man shes been calling daddy for 7 yrs isnt really her father. She now knows of her real father and her father and her have been asking me if they can see eachother. How would you explain this situation to an 8 yr old?He left when i was pregnant, never paid any mind to her.He actually denied her for a very long time.He was in and out of prison and was a heroin addict. She wants to know why i never told her.......im lost.

tell her the truth in the most simplest manner that you can so that even the 5 year can understand your predicament. You are not really lying if the guy that she's calling "daddy" is your current husband & that husband has accepted your daughter as his. Daddys need not be by blood alone but thru acceptance. Her real daddy is not her real daddy anymore, technically speaking since he has already abandoned her, denied of his rights a long time ago. I suggest that you seek a good counselor in your area for them to help you since I don't really know what your situation is.. does the father want to see your daughter once or a few times or in a more longer term?
