I am a 911 Dispatcher and have heard quite a bit from people outside law enforcement as to what they think of them. Now I'd like you to tell me, as there are so many people from all over the world here on Mylot, what do you think or how do you feel about Law Enforcement?

I am glad there is law enforcement, and there are officers who protect the law sometimes even with their lives; if it were not for them I would hardly be sleeping in the night I would most probably be prowling the streets in front of my home to catch the law breakers before they can do something nasty ( a vigilante perhaps ) but thanks to people like you I feel safe to sleep in the night! I appreciate, applaud and salute the people in law enforcement who give up their time , energy, sleep and even their lives just to make my life easier.

I need to ask few questions regarding same topic ...... In America , India and many countries ,we supposedly have "freedom of speech" yet if I was to go up to a police officer and say something along the lines of "F&*# you, you f%^&ing f%#$" it's likely i'd be fined and/or arrested"...what's up with that? I want to call 911 to arrest Bush for false statements under oath regarding Iraq. Will the police respond?

you always seem to make me chuckle Sam... Actually there are many officers that give people alot of warnings as far as verbal abuse goes before acting upon it. You would not believe some of the (pardon my French) crap that they have to deal with on a regular basis.

I feel that there are a lot of good law enforcement officers who want to serve the public and do a good job, but so many are on power trips and think their badge makes them God and will abuse their authority. Those are the ones that get the attention and make it hard for the ones who are in the profession to serve.

To me people that go into law enforcment do it cause they care for others. Most people are scared of law enforcement but, they are just normal every day people. Yeah just because a person becomes a police officer or a Judge does not mean that they are huge meanies or are going to harm a person. I have friends that are state police officers and my dad had a cousin that was a judge. If I were to do something wrong I would deserve what I got for punishment just like the next person but, they are not here to harm anyone. They are here to keep us safer, my youngest daughter seen a police men one day and she started to slowly sneak behind me while standing in line to pay our bill. I knew the man, he is married to my cousin. Any way I told her that he was alright to talk to and he would not hurt you. She stuck her head out behind me and looked at him and he talked to her and asked her name, she just smiled at him. I told him her name and he said you need to come out to my car and see my dog. He was a K-9 unit officer and so after I paid my bill, we went out to his squad car and she got to meet turbo. She thought that was the greatest thing, now she talks to police officer when we see them and is no longer scared of them. TV gives them to much of a bad imagine of what Law enforcement is all about.

I agree, the media and alot of shows & movies tend to put police in a bad light. While I am not walking with my eyes closed, I do know there are officers out there that do wrong. I just wish they'd put a little more on about the heroes !!

I think that most law enforcement officers are brave and ethical.

I can tell you that I respect them because they have a job to do and I know that it is a scary 1 that I would not want and that they are doing the best that they can and I commend you because I can imagine that it gets tough on you and you have to stay calm and it can get rough especially when it comes to kids.

I'm an aussie and also a nurse and I have a lot of respect for anyone that works with the public. Especially police as they are putting their life on the line each day, not knowing what the situation will turn out like and who they are going to encounter... Your job would be pretty stressful too as people can be so out of their element in an emergency situation that they don't listen correctly or give accurate info. I salute you also...

thank you so very much... it can be stressful when you really want to help and they can't seem to give you what you need

I think the same about law enforcement as many other professions. That most of them are there trying to do the best job they can. We only ever really hear about the bad ones and if something exceptionally heroic occurs. They deserve respect as they do a difficult and demanding job which puts their lives in danger.
