Do you have a childhood fear that you never outgrew?

Boy-oh-boy, I do! I am still afraid of being alone, the dark, the closet and whatever might be under my bed. I am never alone, I always have at least one of my kids with me at all times, I hate being by myself, very scary. I am still afraid of the dark, I don't sleep with a night-light or anything but I can't walk into a dark room, totally scary. I am still petrified of my closet, no matter what house I am in, the closet has to be securely closed when I go to bed. When my husband leaves for work in the morning I always ask him to make sure the closet door is closed, he still can't understand what the big deal is. And finally, I'm still scared of what's under my bed. What is really under the bed? Nothing, I know that. But when I get up in the morning or crawl into bed at night, I experience a moment of panic when my feet are on the floor right next to the bed, I make it as quick as possible, sometimes jumping into bed to avoid getting close. I am ridiculous, my family has told me time and time again but I can't help it. Anybody else out there have fears that you just can't grow out of?

Oh my goodness, you sound like me! The dark, I'm nearly 35 and I sleep with the light on incase someone tries to get me. I thought there was an evil gnome in the toilet and if I didn't get back to my room and into bed by the time the tiolet finished flushing he would come and get me. Even now the bathroom doors need to be shut at night and the light has to be on incase I wake up suddenly so I can see why. I have wardrobe doors and drawers shut too, dunno why but I conquered under the bed by filling the gap with boxes of stuff, it took a long time and the beds that go to the floor don't help as there's still about an inch but if you can bung things under there the monster can't fit in. Even my kids aren't scared of monsters so I did well with them, but although I wouldn't tell my boys it's still a habit for me.

Yes we are pretty alike, now I know I am not the only ninny around! My kids, too, don't have the fear I do, they sleep with their closet door open all the time, I close it for them sometimes but they couldn't care less. Thanks for sharing!

I was and still am absolutely terrified of bees! As much as I like to be outside, and I know that those little critters are so helpful, I just am terrified that they will find me a sting me. Wasps, hornet, and other cousins affect me the same way. My husband thinks it is a silly thing, but it's just not a fear that I want to deal with. I do feel for you and your fears. Try not to dictate your life. Easier said than done, I know. Best wishes, and I hope you have a good night sleep. :)

Thanks for the encouragement, it is easier said than done but I try to cope! Good luck to yourself, too!

sleep - trying to get some sleep
Don't worry kakemafarm!!! We definitely shared the same fear. As I read you post the more I see the similarity....and I still am afraid in the dark. Only when I sleep with my husband with lights off otherwise I'll have all the lamp in my house stays on. And when my husband have to work late, I'd just take my daughter to sleep with me in my bed. Cuddling her makes me feel safe. I didn't show my fear when my daughter's around though as I don't want her to have the same problem as I am.
