Fresh bread and pastries vs mass produced

United States

My basic question is ... do you buy mass produced bread and pastries in the large mega marts (not mentioning any names) or do you frequent your local bakery to buy freshly made breads and pastries? I'm a pastry chef in the US and was just wondering everyone's gernal opinion. I am in a dieing field, being squeezed out and out margined by mega stores. I think it's sad, but am having to take the cookie as it crumbled, so to speak. I prefer freshly made breads and pastries, and those that I do not make myself, I purchase from local small bakeries. This also aplies to freshly made food and produce. What do you think?

I actually do both . I prefer the crusty fresh made from my local "small shop" and get it there as often as I can , but if I am honest about it , when I am in a hurry I get it at the supermarket , When I was young there were no supermarkets and it is a shame as I agree with you the small shops are dying , I live in central Scotland , but I think sadly that this is the case in most places , good discussion my friend , and welcome to My lot , have fun xx

Bakery every time - the taste much nicer and you know always fresh...delicious! Unfortunately supermarkets have the monopoly!! Good luck and hang on in there for the ones that buy from you!
