Many people think if they suffer from the bone-thinning disorder called osteoporosis, they can't have dental implants. That's not so, "It seems many people have the misconception that when one is diagnosed with osteoporosis, it means that implants will fail, and this is just not so," "Today's dental implant technology allows dentists to work with patients with low bone density with the same success rate as normal healthy patients under 50." The use of conventional removable dentures actually causes jawbone loss, "Dental implants improve one's quality of life dramatically, and most general dentists are not aware of the treatment options open to patients.

I'm actually scheduled for an implant and I hope it's as good a solution as they say it is because it is really expensive and my health insurance (which costs me an arm & a leg) won't cover any of it because they say it is cosmetic.

I haven't had any dental implants and I am not aware of them. Thank you for the information you are providing anyway. I hope I never get osteoporosis.

I must admit that I have never heard of dental implants. I can see that it would be more beneficial to the patients. A good piece of information Kathy. It's always nice to know that we have a choice. I didn't know that removable denures causes jawbone loss. That is a bit scary. Something that is supposed to help you ends up doing more damage than good.

If that is the case Kathy, then I think this information on dental implants should be blasted out to the public in a big way, because a lot of the older generation that this would apply to, just wouldn't know that this can be done even if they suffer from osteoporosis. Having implants would certainly be bothy cosmetically and psycologically better than having the conventional removable dentures. The public needs to be re-educated about such things - and perhaps the dentists too!

Thanks for this information kathy. I have a missing tooth and I just started looking into dental implants or bridges. I can't decide which one to choose. Bridges are way less expensive. My mother in-law had bridges and you barely notice them. So I am wondering what is the difference between the two. Have a good day.
