For the next 11 weeks, I will have very little time to spend here on myLot; though, I will try to check in at least several times a week, I just won't be able to stay long.
Helium is having their second writing contest. 73 money prizes EVERY week - ranging from $5.00 to $300.00. ($1,250 every week, $15,000 total.) Last year the contest was much shorter and they were only giving away 21 prizes each week. I still earned $120.00 in prizes though.
If any of you want to join the fun, here is the URL with the contest info - http://corp.helium.com/about/contest/contestlist.aspx
They have 500 topics each week to write articles for and all articles continue to earn you money every time someone reads them, so the articles make you money even after the contest ends.
If you are not already a member, you can click on "join" or send me a message with your name and email address and I will send you a personal invitation.
If you want to see what I am writing for the contest, just go to my profile and click on the link there - it will take you to ALL of my articles.

I started with Helium.com just as the contests began (that is actually where I learned about mylot.com). My first week there I was pleasantly surprised to win $20 and the second week I won $5, but I haven't come close since then, since I really haven't had much extra time. I'm hoping to add more content for this week's contest. Thanks for the reminder.
Best of luck!

You're welcome.
I didn't catch the first week of the contest, but so far:
2nd week - won $20.00
3rd week - won $5.00
4th week - won $5.00
This week I am not even in the running - had to get my taxes done and that took most of my spare time.
Oh well, now that the taxes are done, I can get busy writing again next week.

You're doing great so far with the contest, I hope it continues for you next week. Helium.com is a really cool site. I'm glad I found it.

You don't need to be a "great" writer to win.
If you know grammar and punctuation, you can write here and do well in the contest.
If it is not an opinion type of topic; do your research and write your articles.
Helium.com has a lot of writers at all different levels of writing skills. You can go to this weeks contest page, take a look at the topics and then join if you want (or PM me and I will send you a personal invite).

I'm on Helium too, but haven't been to the site in quite a while. I didn't seem to have much luck with figuring out how they work. Maybe I'll have to check it out. You say the contest goes on for 11 weeks...that is a lot of prize money when all totaled? Interesting. Thanks for the information, I appreciate it.

If you need any help let me know. The contest actually started last Wed (03/14) but I didn't find out about it until yesterday. It lasts for 12 weeks this year - with 11 more to go. I just did my third article for this weeks contest and hope to get the chance to do at least 2 more today.
With more prizes and more money, there will probably be plenty of competition. However, with a choice of 500 topics to write articles for each week, it should be very easy to find topics you enjoy.

Hi, I just joined Helium because of this discussion. Good luck in the contest... I have joined as well. Quick question: I was automatically put to #1 due to a lack of articles in the topic I chose to write for. Is that detrimental to my place in the contest? Do I need to try writing about a more popular topic, or are all the #1s eventually pitted against eachother? I look forward to reading your articles and any help will be appreciated. :)

That won't hurt you at all.
Please remember that this weeks contest JUST started at 12:01 PM Eastern Time and ends at the same time next Wednesday. (Final determination of your place in the listings isn't done until 24 hours later - to give all the articles time to be rated.) Most of the topics will be empty because we haven't had time to write to them yet. That will change.
The key to winning in the contest is to write many good quality articles each week. I have been winning between $5 - $20 each week so far by writing between 15 - 22 articles each week. I just haven't had the time to make that PUSH for one of the top 3 places yet.
I write as "Madam KnowItAll" on helium and there is a link in my profile page here that goes to my profile page there.
If you want additional tips or assistance, feel free to PM me here - no PM function at Helium YET.
