How do you make real money online?

I have played around with affiliate advertising with marginal success. I have written and sold e-books with marginal success. The internet is a huge, vast resource full of so many people it's unbelievable. The possibilities for making money online are endless. So my question to you guys is, of those of you who actually make money, and a decent amount of it, online, how do you go about it?

i think making money needs alot of referal if you make abig number of referal you will get enough money

Referrals are what I seem to have the most trouble with, unfortunately. All my friends and family are very skeptical of online money making, so it's difficult for me to find people to refer.
