My baby is 14 months old and lately, he hasn't been eating much. He's been sleeping 4 hours for his nap and when he does eat, he'll throw up. He acts as if food in his mouth causes him pain, but he still shoves more in there. Could he be teething? I've also noticed he chews his tounge with his gums.

Hello Kaeli72, At first I was going to say that your baby going through the stage of not eating is pretty normal. I have known of plenty of children who have went through that, including my own. But the thing that bothered me about your situation is that he is throwing up. If he were not eating simply because of teething, I don't understand why he would be throwing up. Does he act like he is in pain just when chewing the food, or does he act like he is in pain more when swallowing the food? I ask this because the situation you described sounds like what my youngest child went through. He wasn't able to eat much b/c he was in pain. But yet, he would try to shove food in b/c he was hungry. He would throw up when trying to eat and eventually got to the point where he just pushed his food away. Well the results were that his tonsils were so huge that he had almost no room to allow food to pass through safely and without gagging him. You should certainly get your son seen by a doctor as soon as possible. If it is just teething, then that is good. If it is his tonsils then there is something that can be done about it. Good luck and please keep us posted.

Whoah Nelly! (sorry, had to say that). I would say that while he was sitting in his high chair, he'd cry and scream, then put food in his mouth and eat it...then he'd scream some more. It could be a sore throat as its allergy season down here. But, he throws up because he choked on something. Why when he's been eating solids for half a year? Thanks for your response.

lol @ whoa Nelly! lol, That is what I am saying, why would he be throwing up when eating and trying to swallow..maybe his tonsils are too swollen and it hurts to bad when he swallows..just an idea. I would certainly get him to a doctor to find out what is going on. My child did the same thing and he had been eating solids for a long time too. Good luck and I hope it is all figured out soon.

I would say teething until you said throwing up. I would call your son's pedi. Throwing up is not a sign of teething.

Hello Kaeli72..Yups, i think so, your baby is teething..That's natural that he is not eating, but you should let him, try to give him pouridge or let him drink polivyflor, thats a vitamins for the teeth, so that he will not feel the sweeling of his teeth and gums, or the best way is to see his pedia..That's what i did for my son, when he was experiencing that too.

I would think if this were just because of teething he wouldn't be throwing up. My daughter goes through her phases of not wanting to eat much but she's never thrown up. I would take him to the doctor just to be on the safe side. But this is coming from a first time sometimes paranoid mommy.
