Twenty five people were picked at random by a police officer to appear in court this afternoon while they were shopping at Wal Mart! Apparently there was a shortage of jurors in that county today and so the courts were forced to serve papers to shoppers. They were given as lttle notice as an hour or so before they had to appear. All because too many people got out of jury duty for one reason or another. I can understand why they did it but to catch them off gaurd at wal Mart? Apparently it is one stop shopping, get food jewlery, clothing, paint, jury duty! How do you feel about this?

Where was this located? I find this to be unfathomable in a country like ours. It disgusts me that the government thinks they can just order people to do things like this. Isn't this a democracy because it sounds a little like a dictatorship to me. I would never try to get out of jury duty on purpose because I feel that it is my responsibility, but in return, I feel like a little respect is warranted by our leaders. Just my thoughts !

I think it's kinda funny and kinda pathetic hun, really, i do... I guess all i can do is tell you a teensy little story... A friend of mine was called for jurry duty, he just told the guy a little white lie, saying he hated black people, wasn't a nice thing to say, and he loves all people, well, as long as they personally stay on his bad side, but he just didn't want to. They never asked him to do it again. I think it's pathetic though, why would they think they have the right to order people who are out doing their daily business to do something that they themselves caused a fault with? they should be more on their toes... STUPID Government!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From The Becoming Increasingly BITTERED With The Government Woman!! haha.

The only problem I see is not getting a fair trial due to a lot of grumpy jurors!!

Frankly i think its really funny. I mean i would hate to be really busy and be told I had to go jury. But i think its really funny that it happened. That it had to happen. THe one time i was called to jury duty i was 9 months pregnant and the trial date was right over my duedate. I couldent go because they didnt want me going into labor while on duty.

My goodness! Now I think I've heard just about everything. Lee County, NC must be a very small county. That would never happen where I live (same county as Ft Lauderdale, FL). I would be horribly upset if I lived in Lee County, NC and was served a notice to appear for jury duty at Wal-Mart. Maybe Lee County should call more jurors at a time. I know our county sure calls a lot in at one time. I'd also be curious to know where they call the jury pool from...whether it's registered voters, registered drivers, or what???

WOW. I would be so, so ticked if that happened to me. Hopefully I wouldn't be a good target since I'm most always at Wal-Mart with a three-year-old in tow, but still. To inconvenience people that way is just ridiculous. I can't imagine why the trial - in one hour! - couldn't just be moved to another day so that more jurors could be *properly* summoned.
