Obviously you are talking about before it breaks. One trick that I learned when working at a fastfood restaurant when I was in college was the following: If you have a large number of eggs you are using (we beat hundreds of eggs in the morning to be prepared to make breakfast sandwiched), break each egg in a seperate container making sure it is good and then add it to the large container so that you do not have the opportunity to spoil all the eggs and thus creating a lot of waste.

I think if it smells really bad, then it's rotten..

Put it in water, if it floats - throw it away wrapped in tissue, ooh, it could be smelly if it breaks

Bacterial or fungal contamination of the egg can produce black, red or green rots. The egg looks and smells putrid when broken out. When we break a rotten egg, it has a big red spot in it and u can identify a rotten egg simply by putting a water in the bowl and then put egg in it. It'll come at the top of water if it'll b a rotten egg and if it'll b n't rotten then it'll n't come at the top and will remain at bottom.

You put the egg in a pot full of water. If the egg floats on the water it means it is rotten. If it sinks then it's a good egg. Or maybe it's the other way around. I'm confused.
