here in the philippines "customer is always right" is a very abused line. i am a cashier in one of the biggest supermarket and i encountered lots of demanding customers who complains even the smallest mistakes my co-cashiers had done. there are cases that they were shouting on them for no reasons, cursing on them, insulting them in front of hundreds of customers and other employees...only psychotic people could do!!! and here comes the supervisors...just to calm the customer and talk to them then scold the cashier..gosh!!! the oddest par...termination!!! im wondering if this happens to other countries....!!! where is justice....lol????

This is only a general rule. And this applies to all companies in every country who wish to follow world standards. ISO-registered companies are promoting customer satisfaction. There are exceptions to the rule, as always. But for companies who want to maintain their good business relationship, they must exert maximum tolerance to the customers. You are selling your goods and services. To get the buyer come to you, you must not show anything that could provoke dissatisfaction, and worse, lawsuit.

In a way, "the customer is always right" is a good motto - because it asks the serving staff to give customers the top priority. I think your country is one of the rare few in the world that really displays good customer service. I do however disagree with the boss scolding the employee in front of the customer just to make the latter happy. Staff are human too. Besides, this is perverting the true essence of the rule a little already.
