Video Game Evolution: Fun

As video games become more and more "high-tech" and graphics become more realistic..I wonder: is gameplay going to remain as fun? I grew up with the orignal Atari's and basically everything along the way...can the newer games compare to Pac-Man, Frogger, Mario Bros with Duck Hunt? what is your opinion?
