i am so happy to see this movie. i now appreciate more the movies of the same kind. but i heard that Persians were not pleased of this movie. they said 300 has given the viewers bad bad impression about them. tsk tsk... but that makes it interesting, isn't? i give it 10/10 rating ;-)

Well, I'm sure plenty of Germans don't appreciate being depicted as Nazi's, Italians that don't like to be associated with the mafia, and so on. The fact is that this is a historic fantasy piece. Fantasy elements were added but it's based on the Battle of Thermopylae. I think it's safe to say most Americans didn't see this film and think "Oh yeah. The Persians suck". Most people had no idea the Persians were even related.

Yeah, I agree. I don't think it should be a problem, especially with the other well-established stereotypes out there that you mentioned. It's not like people take movies seriously enough for people to get upset over it. Sure, if they'd made a documentary that bad-mouthed the Persians then that'd be something slightly more worthwhile to get mad about, but they didn't, and no one even thinks bad about Persians (especially since "Persians" aren't really a recognized ethnic/racial/nationality. . .just their descendents, namely Iranians. Like you said, most people didn't even make that connection).

It was the past anyway...People before us wherever they are from are all fighting over lands and domains right? hehe so they shouldn't get offended or anything..It was the past... I didn't like the way they looked before too though..too much blings and piercings..
