Once and that was enough for me rosebug. At the time we were still living on our farm and this freak storm came through. It swept a path through our place and what a mess. We lost the roof off part of our dairy milking shed, one large shed totally destroyed when the wind whipped through it and lifted the roof. That shed had been there for a very long time, was solid but also empty at the time, so nothing to slow or stop the wind. Several large trees came down, one of which missed the front of the house by 2 inches. However we ended up with every window broken and pieces tossed around inside the house. Our rain water tank ended up across the road, and so did several pieces of lighter farm equipment.
The chook house was totally destroyed and oh, the iron from that was caught on the neighbours fence - sliced through. I was the only one home at the time and was absolutely terrified. End result was that the power company made us fix some things before they would reconnect power. Lovely thing too, as this happened about 4.00 pm on a Friday afternoon, but luckily my husband found the necessary bits and talked them into reconnecting power till the following week. Then they were out on the Monday afternoon all set to disconnect if he hadn't fixed it properly and not done a make-shift job.
The thing is if it had been about 200 yards south, then it would have missed the house, dairy and shedding completely. Oh and the insurance company called it "an act of God" and didn't pay anything.

When I was a young girl, my grandmother was visiting from Italy. We took her to Lorne on the Bellarine Peninsula. It's a lovely beach and we enjoyed the day though it was extremely hot. On the way back we took the inland route and there was a huge bushfire. In those days we didn't have a radio in the car and my father had to follow his instincts. The thick black smoke seemed to get closer and at one stage we could see the flames licking the tops of the trees. I remember being very frightened - but thankfully we made it through. It was a terrible day for me.

I've been caught on the tail end of a hurricane and that was scary enough to make me realize I never want the real thing to happen to me!
Only other natural occurences I've had where I live are snow storms, ice storms, etc. Nothing all that disasterous as far as most of us are concerned as we expect it living in the snow belt!

Our natural disaster was our housefire. We have been our of the home for 3 summers now and it has not been easy. I have exhausted every avenue to rebuild and am not sure if we will rebuild the burnt portion anytime soon. We ever get back on our feet we would like to help others in a similar position if it happens to them. Wish me luck.
