Do you pair all your socks after youve washd them and roll them at the ends?

March 22, 2007 8:20am CST
I gave up doing this as soon as I moved out of the parental unit. Its too time consuming and annoying. Although I think it would probably save me time in the long run as I have to spend ages finding pairs when I want to put them on. I used to always ware odd socks but not I hate doing that. Its funny how our habits change. Also, rolling your socks at the end is bad for the elastic!

I usually tie mine together. I was rolling them and tucking in the top but it always loosens the elastic. I got tired of hunting around for the other sock so it is better to tie them. The bulge tends to take up more room in the drawer, but that's ok.

Hmm interesting. Does tying them not ruin the elastic too?

I have to do that since every morning at 9 O'clock I need it.At that time I am in haste and when you are in such a condition even the things which are in front of the eyes can be found easily.I am a university student and reside in campus hostel. In student life one wakes up late in the morning since he sleeps late in the night.Well there is a little time available to get ready. So I can't afford to waste my time for such activity that is to search for the socks trying to get ready.

One of the tricks I am grateful for mum for! I hate looking for socks in the morning and I find so many odd socks it's unbelievable. I actually have drawers of socks! I always roll two matching socks into a ball, so it's so easy to find them and saves so much time and hassle! I hate wearing odd socks, sounds silly I know but I feel self consciouse about them!

Is it really bad for the elastic. I normally tend to a cheating thing and buy many of the same pairs of socks so that I do not need to pair them but can find a pair easily when I open the drawer. It is so easy!

I always pair and roll the socks after laundry, although I hate doing it to black socks, my husband has loads for work and I always seem to have problem matching them! But I will stand and do it, rather than have him stomp around in the morning looking for socks!

I used to fold pairs together and put them neatly in the drawer but found they still ended up getting all muddled up! So I roll them at the ends now! But I'm convinced I have a sock thief in my house! I always end up with at least two odd socks every wash!

I think there is a black hole where all the odd socks go. MAybe they should introduce string thats attached to them both that you have to weave through your trouser legs and out the other one so they stay matching forever.

Yes I do because it is easier in the end to find them when I need them. I think what you need is a washing bag that is net that people use to was their undies and lingerie in. that way your socks are always together and easier to match up my grandma always used large safety pins so as soon as we pulled them off we safety pinned them so when they are washed they stay together. Baby safety pins are best. My mom has used the little round sock things that hold them together can't think of the name. But we tried the little round pieces of plastic off of pop or water bottles it worked well put socks together and pull the plastic piece to the middle of the socks. Good luck Yes rolling is bad for the plastic so safety pins would work great at keeping them together till you wear them.

I think I do need a net bag for undies and socks. But thn theres the problem of my boyfriends undies and sock, should he have a seperate one? If so, there would be three washing bags, if not his socks will get all muddled up with mine!

For me and my husband and my son, we each have a sock drawer in which they all go loose. It doesn't take long to match up socks because we don't have a huge variety of types of socks. It really doesn't take long for my husband. He keeps one kind of white socks and one kind of black socks period, so he can just grab what he needs by color and move on.

Yeah, I do it althouhg it is one of my least favorite laundry things to do. I pretty much have to do it or my kids would be walking around all the time with non-matching socks.

To keep any socks i wear together, and not go astray, i peg them with a cloths peg or safety pin or even a paper clip ^^
23 May 07
Does it not damage the sock sticking all those pins etc in them?

Yes, after they've been washed and dries and brought up stairs i pair them up but rolling the end over, beofre putting them in my draw. It takes much less time and is much less hassle than trying to find a matching pair in the morning before work!

You sound very organised! I've started pairing mine now but I still have loads of odd ones.

Yeah, I can be lazy but when I feel like organizing things, I am really organized. Whenever I fold clothes I also put the pair of socks together and roll them at the ends. It saves me a lot of time rather than having to look for the other one whenever I have to wear socks.
12 Apr 07
So when you feel lazy you dont pair them?

I do fold them at the ends that way they won't get lost. I have a family of four, myself included, and it is hard to keep track of loose socks.

No matter how hard I trty to keep them in pairs it just doesn't work! I have a whole drawer full of socks and most of them are odd?

Yes, I will pair my socks after washing them because I hate to not be able to find them together when I need it. Also, I used to roll the socks like you said but now that there are storage boxes with compartments, it is convenient to just put each pair in the different slots.
12 Apr 07
compartments sound good, Ive never seen one of these, Il need to have a look!

Yes, I do roll my socks after washing and drying them. Otherwise I would lose them It takes alot less room up in a drawer, too.
12 Apr 07
I never thought about the fact that they take up less room in the sock drawer b4, my sock drawer is a bit crammed at the moment so I think it sounds like a good idea. I did infact try to pair them yesterday but I could hardly find any matching ones, all the clean ones were odd! Maybe if I ever reach the end of my washing pile I might find more matching ones.

I do roll the pair of socks at the end after washing, else it will be a nightmare when I wanted to wear it and then starting to look for the matching pair. Most of the morning, I will be rushing, and if I need to look for the matching pair, it will be very stressful for me. I will rather do it after in is washed and dry.
12 Apr 07
I look my sock out the night b4 to save time in the morning, prepared arent I?

sock balls? yup-sure do.i have so much stuff in the drawer,if i didn't i'd probably never find the other sock.
12 Apr 07
Sock balls indeed. Soundlike you have a lot of stuff in your sock drawer. I recently used to keep my pants and socks in the same drawer but my drawers at the moments are too rubbish so I have a drawer for each for the first evr time!
