Has anyone here experienced their parents divorcing? How old were you when it happened and how long were they married for beforehand? How did you handle it and did it affect you? Considering the divorce rate is over 50%, you wonder why people bother getting married when statistically, it's going to go down down the drain.

My parents divorced when I was 10 and had been married for 10 years. It was difficult. The worst part was that my dad seemed to be the only one who was hurting from it. I just couldn't understand how you could spend a decade with another person and suddenly not have them and not mind. I got over it, but it was rough. Sometimes I wish it would have happened when I was younger and wouldn't have remembered as much. Other times, I'm glad I at least have 10 years of memories with them together.

well my parents divorced before i was 2 years old. they were married about 6 or 7 years. Growing up my real father never came around and that affected me because i felt that i was not good enough for him. My mom and step dad lived together since i was 2 and got married when i was like 10 and are still happily married. I call my step dad..dad because he basically raised me. My real father has passed away now but I did get to him a little bit before hand and found why he didn't come around when i was growing up.
