Do you want to cut down on your risk of developing heart disease? Then follow the good old advice of eating plenty of fruits and vegetables. Research has found that eating even one extra serving of a fruit or vegetable daily lowers the risk of heart disease by 4%. The researchers found that fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C, as well as green leafy vegetables, offered the greatest protection. So next time you are hungry for a snack, grab a fruit!

You are so right. This is something I try to do. But, it is so hard. I am doing better than last month. I just keep telling myself I need to do this for my kids. Thanks for this reminder about developing heart disease. Heart disease does run in my family.

You are so correct. I eat a lot of vegetables but have a problem with eating fruit. We always have it on hand beacause the kids eat it but I just do not care much for fruit. An occassional banana and some dried fruit is my limit. I know I should eat more but I just can not get my self to eat it. My doctor has even told me to eat more fruit but I still have a problem with it so that is why I eat the dried fruit.

So right you are. I have given you another + rating for your posting. It is so good. We all really need to cut back on the sugars and eat fruits and veggies more. I freeze my bananas, strawberries, and peaches. When I want ice cream, I throw the frozen fruit in my vita mix with a little milk, and there it is and the sugar craving is gone with healthy food.

yeah - another one I'm getting right! In my house both my kids love fruit and veg - brocoli and green beans are some of the favourites! I sometimes worry my kids eat too much fruit but I never have any trouble getting them to eat it - but I have given them fruit and veg since they were little and we often experiment with raw veg too!

Yeah i always eat fruits and vegetables as it is rich in vitamins and minerals and can be easily digested by body and gives instant energy like players eat bananas for instant energy. And besides it is always better to eat fruit as salad as it contains nutrients. And like you also said it lowers the risk of heart disease too. So i avoid junk food which provides zero nutrition and only add calories and weight.

My favorite fruit is bananas, white peaches and a yellow melon from Italy that was giancola (I think). BUT since I came back from Italy all of the fruit here is pretty bland, unless is it from a farmer's market. It's amazing how much of a difference it makes when the fruit isn't frozen and shipped for hundreds of miles! In general I prefer all fruit fresh without any additions. Just the fruit, straight from the plant. The simpler the better.
