I have a craving for mashed potato once in a while. Any simple mashed potato recipe you want to share?

There is nothing like real mashed potatoes, but in a pinch we get the mashed potatoes that are dry in a bag. You add water, microwave for 4 minutes and voila! They are really good too.

How about a little ground hamburger (leanest kind 90% is best, if ya find it), sauteed mushrooms and onions, a dollup of sour cream (only Breakstones), two or three cubes of cream cheese and either a beef or chicken boullion for added flavor. Little dash of milk and white peppr and your good to go. Yummy ! sharing the light 'enlightenedpsych2' Erica

Can I make it without the ground hamburger or any substitute for the hamburger? Anyways, I'll make this for other members of my family. I'm not vegetarian but I don't eat meat.

I just love mashed potatoes! I just made them as a side dish for my roast. I also served them with some stuffing as well. All of them combined together made for a rather tasty meal indeed! I enclosed two recipes below of the mashed potatoes I tend to make quite often as a side dish for my meats that I prepare. Or at least for the meals I tend to prepare as well for me & my other half for dinner. I hope if you try these recipes out that you end up enjoying them! I know we just love them around here! . . Thanks for allowing me to share! xx "Garlic Mashed Potatoes." Ingredients are as follows: - 2 - 3 large potatoes, peeled but also quartered - 2 large garlic cloves all chopped - 2 cups of skim milk - 1/2 of a teaspoon of black or white pepper Directions are as follows: - First cook the potatoes, cover in boiling water for roughly 20 - 25 minutes or at least until tender. Then remove from the heat when potatoes have become tender. Then drain & recover. - Take a small sauce pan you have on hand, on low high cook the garlic with the milk until the garlic has softened. Do this for roughly 30 minutes. - Then add the milk & the garlic mixture & the white/black pepper to the potatoes. Then beat with an electric mixture on low speed or you can even mash them as well with a potato mashed until smooth. Then serve on the side with your meat or whatever you had prepared. ENJOY! "Cheesy Mashed Potatoes." Ingredients are as follows: - 2 pounds of mashed potatoes - 1/2 of a cup of sour cream - 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese - 1 teaspoon of salt - 1 - 2 tablespoons of margarine (You can use butter as well) - 1 teaspoon of pepper Directions are as follows: - First peel your potatoes & cut them in quarters. Then place the potatoes in a large saucepan & cover them with water. Bring them to a boil on medium - high heat. Continue to boil at least until the potatoes have become fork tender. About 20 minutes. Then drain the potatoes & mash them. You can use a potato mashed or use your electric beater, whichever you prefer. - Then stir in your butter/margarine, along with your sour cream, & your salt & pepper. Then stir in the cheese just until mixed. Then serve these immediately. Or put in heated serving dish, make sure to cover them to keep them warm until you are ready to serve. Then serve as soon as you are ready & ENJOY! xx

Try putting some chevre or boursin cheese. These come in great flavors like herb, garlic, or black pepper and really add a nice zing and some tang. Cream cheese is also really good in mashed potatoes. You can also mix in crumbled bacon, green onions, or cheddar cheese.

First, I will find out what chevre or boursin cheese is. My entire vocabulary of cheese includes only pasteurized, quickmelt, feta, mozarella... (smiles) This is really interesting. The basic ingredients I know used in mashed potatoes are butter and milk. I don't know that we can also have cream cheese in it.

Thanks! I checked that out just now and it looks yummy. I'll try to look for that in my next trip to the grocery.
