American Idol, Sanjaya and the Howard Stern thing

So who else was SHOCKED that Stephanie was eliminated last night? I was equally shocked that Chris ended up in the bottom two, as the judges loved his performance! And Sanjaya didn't even make the bottom three! Does he have a great fan base or what??? In case you haven't heard, there may be more to this than just Sanjaya's fans voting to keep him in. Radio shock jock Howard Stern has been urging his fans to vote to keep Sanjaya on the show,as a way to make a "mockery" of AI. He's even referred his fans to a website called Vote for the Worst. http://www.votefortheworst.com/ So what do you think of all this? I feel kinda bad for Sanjaya-- he's a kid and he's not a terrible singer, I do think he's up against some great singers though. Still, it must make him feel bad that people are mocking his singing ability. He made it into the competition fair and square and the press is really dogging him. I also think Stern is VERY mean spirited!

I like Sanjaya's personality and courage. His self confidence is probably destroyed because of all this.He also probably feels bad that he is staying knowing that he is not as good as some of the others.I wonder what the other Idols are saying behind his back? I think he will make it somewhere in the showbusiness, but not as a singer.Hey,wouldn't he be a great kid for The Jungle Book?

I think it's a shame that people want to vote for the worst singer because they think it's funny. They are ruining the show. There are people who deserve to be there. If Sanjaya deserves to be there then so be it.

He seems like a nice kid, but is a bad singer. There is a lady in New York who is day 6 into a hunger strike. She will not eat until Sanjaya gets the boot! You can find the story on TMZ.com

Sanjaya was good in the beginning but since week 1 when we first started voting he has not performed well at all...I have always agreed with the judges when it comes to him people have got voted off prior to him that really deserved to be there more than him....on the Howard Stern note, I used to listen to him and he was always doing things like this...I personally think it is ridiculous because 1) you are keeping someone in the game that really doesn't deserve it....to make a mockery of a show for what??? 2) Each week that Sanjaya gets votes for to stay there he believes each week that he really deserves it...He doesn't look surprised when they say he's staying and he should be surprised because he does not belong there anymore...Yeah Stephanie had one bad week and got voted off...Sanjaya has had every week BAD and manages to stay in just to make a mockery of the show. Yeah he is young and a kid still but when you don't perform up to par then you don't perform up to par...He has not performed up to par at all especially not enough to be in the top 10. I mean Antonella got voted off because she wasn't performing and I think that Sanjaya should have gone along with her because they both were not American Idol material to me. Then again I am one person out of many and this is my opinion, but for the most part the judges see it and I see a lot of the media wondering why Sanjaya is still there like me.

There are other sites i think that try to get people to vote for the worst singer. I think last year the were backick kelly pickler. In the end though one of the best singers usually wins.

Count me in! I was pretty much shocked to see Stephanie go home...but I really expected for some reason to see Sanjaya stay. I guess that it's not a surprise anymore that he's not eliminated despite there being other better singers. For some reason, more people vote for him...But yeah, I do pity Sanjaya a bit in that he does seem to be pretty much put down by a lot of people--I do think that Simon said it best--that he's one brave kid! I just really wish that in the end, the most deserving contestant would win--hehe can anybody say Melinda Dolittle?? ;)

Sanjaya has all the little girls voting for him. He is a great singer. He needs to get over his shyness and he needs to get more confidence. American Idol has turned into a popularity contest instead of a singing contest.

i think he is a sweet kid who sings ok and needs a hair cut. I am suprised that he is still there. Big time suprised. but this show is not just about the best singer, there is something about this kid that the girls most love. you have to vote for these people in order for them to move on. so it's the people

I'm beyond shocked that Stephanie went home but even more shocked that Chris Richardson was in the bottom two! I think he is THE best male singer on that show this season and I also like his singing better than all of the females as well. I guess I'm one of the few who feel this way based on where he was standing the other night. I'll be voting non-stop next Tuesday night. As for Sanjaya - he was good enough for the top 24 but he should have been sent home after that. He isn't (in my opinion) good enough for the top 12 and certainly not the top 10 that will be touring. I think he has potential but he's just not 'there' yet to be a winner on American Idol. Maybe in a few years with more experience and some help with his shyness and being so reserved on stage. As for Howard Stern.. well.. no comment. I've been aware of that website for the last few years and it's no secret that they set out to make a joke of A.I. by voting for the worst singer each week. I have no doubt they are all voting for Sanjaya each week and that's why he's still on the show. Same thing happened with that kid last season (the one that looked like Chicken Little). I know at some point all but 1 has to be voted off but the sad part is that good singers are going home before being given a chance to really shine while these kids who have no business still being in the competition are still there week after week singing very poorly compared to the other singers. Oh well.. VOTE FOR CHRIS RICHARDSON! :]

I think so too. This Howard man could probably just using AI to make people notice him again. That's showbiz! I do also believe that Sanjaya is a good singer but he is no match for belter like Lakisha and Melinda.

That website and plan of voting for the worst on idol has been going on since Carrie Underwood won that season. I heard of it then, i didnt hear much about it last year. I figured they were doing it again this season.

I love Howard. He speaks his mind. That doesn't make him mean spirited.

I was shocked that Stephanie was eliminated. Sanjaya got lucky this week. I think he should have been kicked off back when Sundance was (don't get me started on that!) BUT this week when I say he got lucky I mean with song choice...anybody who has ever listened to You Really Got Me sung karoake by ANYBODY knows he sounds about the same. Heck Ive heard the original and it sounded kinda similar. Do I think he did good? No. But I actually think he deserved to stay this week. HAYLEY should have gone home. Normally she has IMO an "okay" voice (not the strongest but certainly NOT the worst) but this week was just BRUTAL. I think she concentrated more on her outfit than her stage performance. It was as if she thought if she dressed "provocatively" (and I use that term loosely...can't say what I really feel here) enough America (nor the judges) would pay attention to her singing and sadly...it worked. My advice for Miss Hayley if she wants to make it in this competition is to put on some clothes (particularly UNDER clothes if you catch my drift) and concentrate on song choice/practice vocal ability. Again. JUST MY OPINION.
