Have you ever been to a city or a town that you could not wait to leave? Maybe it was passing through, or perhaps you were there to visit friends or relatives? Were the people rude, did the water taste bad, or was there just a bunch of garbage lining the streets? I in no way want to offend anyone's hometown, but I'd like to hear about the city, town, or village that you visited, but will never go back. For me, the worst city I've ever been to is Bakersfield, California.

Oh how funny! As I was reading your post, I was thinking of Bakersfield too! It is so dry and such a boring long drive there, I just can't stand it. My cousin used to live there and we would go visit him, and I couldn't wait to head back home again. I usuall felt that way about 2 minutes after arriving.

My mom couldn't get over how there was nothing there. Just nothing. It kids of seemed like no one cared about the place.

Oh yes, there was one place I went to and I never felt so uneasy, wary and scared about and that was Rotterdam, it was a horrid place, I felt so uncomfortable and there were so many dodgy characters around, it wasn't a very nice place to be either, we stopped off there en route to Amsterdam, I'm glad I went but I will never ever go back. I've never felt this way about a place before but it just gave me the creeps.

Thank you for best response, it's ok when you are in your own native country and you know different ways to get somewhere but in a strange country you sometimes have no alternative but I certainly will never ever set foot in Rotterdam again, ewwww.

That's scary. Don't you wish there were better routes to get where you wanted to go?

That's interesting. In America there are three things we seem to think about London: it has an enormous amount of people in it, it rains a lot, and it is glamourous. Guess the last one is wrong.

Gotta say Bismark, North Dakota. There is nothing there! Many of the people are snobby for some reason I can't understand, and it's cold ALL YEAR LONG. Some family members of mine live up there, and do I pity them.

I guess if it cold all year round, then you learn to be snobby for self-preservation. : )

Yes, I have. Before visiting I do some reach and I usually, physco myself down to accept the condition, because I am sure to find another place like my home is going to be pretty tough. By mentally preparing myself, I tend to be able to survive for the period

Actually, I couldn't wait to get out of my home town. It is a small town and at the time I felt there were a lot of small minds that lived there!

That can be a detraction of small towns.

Newark, NJ. It was so terrible. So dirty. So many really really poor and despondant people. So industrial. So many homeless. It's the way big bad scary cities are in the movies.

Indeed, there is a place that I vowed will never visit again. It was last year and I was looking for a nice vacation place here in my country. My girls like to have a place with a beach and a pool. A friend suggested one place and said the place is peaceful and serene. I need to drive 4 straight hours just to get there. Upon arriving, I was very disappointed because the place is not really that clean. All the way to our rental lodge, our shoes either got muddy or have sand in it. The food was not good either. Luckily, I paid for an overnight stay only. It was a place in my country called Laiya, Batangas.

Don't you wish there were some way to see what places like that are truly like, without having to pay the money to find out firsthand?

I have been to California many years ago and seen that it is not to clean of a state. Houses seemed to be packed on top of each other. Just does not seem to be the place to live. Can't say that there has been a city I have been too that was bad enough not to go back too. There are some really bad looking towns in Georgia and then I lived in Florida for a while and you had to know what part of town you wanted to be in cause some parts were really scary.

Yeah, a lot of big cities and smaller cities outside of big cities in California are not clean. I remember living there. There were so many people, but surely there is a way to at least contain that problem.

Yes! I lived in York for 5 years, and although i would probably go and visit it again, there's no way i'd go there to live ever, ever, again! I hated living there, it was really expensive, lonely, full of tourists, and just bascially not nice. The water tasted horrible, the people were fake, back-stabbing anf rude, the place lterally stunk and i wouldn't live there again if someone paid me!

I was very interested reading everyones responses. I've been to a lot of places, but I can't think of any that I couldn't wait to leave. Once on a trip to florida, though, we were driving through south carolina trying to find a rest stop. My husband pulled into one place and was going to get gas, and the bathroom was out of order. At the next place, the bathroom was unbelievably filthy. I try to avoid stopping anywhere in that state, though I'm sure there are most likely some good places there.

Oh, I hate never stopping at a clean bathroom! It's like you have to "hold it" until you reach a hotel, or your destination. I don't know why travel routes don't take better care of their rest stops, and I include service stations in that.
