Does anyone use ebay?

March 22, 2007 3:48pm CST
Has anyone else found that lately it is much harder to sell things and when you do the price you get for it is much lower? I used to make loads of money selling childrens books on ebay and these days I hardly make my money back so it isn't worth me doing it.

I agree that it is harder to sell things now, i think its because soo many people are on auction sites like Ebay and so there is always someone selling the same item for cheaper.

I've yet to make a single cent selling anything. How do the power sellers do it and where do they get their merchandise?

Yes, I think it getting tougher to sell on Ebay. And they keep raising the fees. They are getting way too high. I have been selling custom made doll clothes for American Girl and Bitty Baby dolls. I do make a profit, but if they keep raising their fees I might have to reconsider their site. Check out my site: http://stores.ebay.com/Dream-Doll-Boutique

I haven't used ebay in a while as it seems to be full of greedy people. You are a rarity on there! Most people are charging extortionate amounts on the postage. I know the prices have risen but it really doesn't justify some of the prices charged.

Yes i have used ebay but i have generally used it to buy things so i do not know much of their selling structure so cannot tell you much there but if you are not makeing money then there is no point sticking to those guys and if you are being paid less shoot one email to ebay admin and they should reply fast cos they sure reply fast when there is a payment problem or money involved hence the best would be to contact them since you do business on it and if they rectify then it is ok for you to continue or else look for something else is the best suggestion i can offer.

I go through stages of selling and buying on eBay. If I have a big book or clothes cleanout, I tend to sell rather than give to charity now! I have sold most of the things I put on eBay but I also tend to buy heaps at the same time!

I use ebay often, I like it to buy things that I know I can get cheaper online than in the store. I also sell things on it quite often. I don't think the things I'm selling are going for lower than usual. However, I sell limited edition make-up or hard to get cosmetic items that usually don't go for cheap. I'll sell somethings for cheap, but its usually the same prices as the stores. Books are probably kind of hard to sell on ebay...I've had better luck selling books on half.com, but its only available to US ebayers.

I am an avid seller and buyer on ebay for almost 2 years now. I sell and buy a lot of books. I buy books in bulk from the U.S. usually and resell them here in the Philippines. Since I just sell locally, business is just the same for me since it's just a sort of hobby for me.

I know exactly what you mean. I put several things on there a while back and only sold one thing. It is very discouraging. You're right, the prices offered are really going down a lot.

I have been on ebay many times ,but more often to look for something I was interested in.I ,too , have heard that their fees is way high and it eats into the profit one makes. So, I have felt discouraged trying to sell anything on ebay , though I haven't given up on that idea.I guess, the know that people who are making some money from using the site will keep coming back even if the percentage of profit is less. They should be more considerate if they want to grow their business further.

I have been an eBay UK seller for the past two years and I've noticed that spring to summer time is not a good time to trade as most people would rather go out then stay in. Last year I spend my summer on holiday and searching for a new product to sell. And I started trading again around september... Normaly it would start slow then it got busy around november, christmas time until about this time. N starting next month I will only list item when they have special offer so I don't spend a lot on listing fee. So I think with eBay is depend on what time of the year you trade...xx

I sell on ebay a lot, but I have noticed that I am not making as much money as I used to. It seems that things aren't selling nearly as well as they used to. I sell a lot of kids clothes, but I have noticed that books aren't selling very well and niether are movies. I try really hard to not over charge for shipping. I like to make a little bit off of it for my time in going to the post office, etc. but I think chargind $10 for shipping on a DVD is a little ridiculous!!

I sell on ebay and although I do fairly well, at times it can be more difficult to sell items. I do not list anything in January or February due to the fact that I get few if any bids. People are still recovering from Christmas. The rest of the year, I try to sell things with the time of year. For instance if I have warmer clothes, I see them in late summer or early fall. This seems to help. Good Luck !
