What does everyone think about the new disc format, Blu-Ray? Personally, I can't wait for it to be the new standard in a few years. Right now it's still pretty expensive to make, but it's gradually getting cheaper.
What do you think about HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray? I think Blu-Ray is way better, not only because of its higher capacity (right now I think the best ones out are dual layers that have 50 GB) per layer (25 GB per layer), but it's capacity for more layers! That's right. It can have more than 2 layers, so 50GB isn't the limit, thanks to the harder substance the coating on the discs is made from. This means that they can use less of the coating to achieve the same amount of protection and they can fit multiple layers on a disc to have hundreds of GB!!!

This is too much. The truth is, I was hoping that the DVD thing is the last one. Well, at my age, I don't want to be coping with one technology which keeps on cropping after another. But noting the way you describe its capability, that is a sure wow! And, you are right, we are looking forward to the day when it shall be finally released in the market on full scale.

Hopefully if Blu-ray really takes off there won't be a need for another disc standard for a long time, but I wouldn't worry too much about having to coping with it yet, since it's still pretty expensive, and it won't just take over, it'll be a more gradual thing, kind of like when DVD took over VHS. You can still find recent movies on VHS and most people still have VCRs, so I don't think DVD users will be left out in the cold.
