My son is now 8 years old and I still see him sucking his thumb. Is that wrong?

Yes it wrong. First it can cause infection and also the thumb will loose its strength.

I have tried several ways to stop him, I have even embarrassed him in front of his friends, but he continues, I asked his counselor at school about it and she said it was just a phase that would pass...yea right he is still doing it, I would hate for him to get sick.

I don't know if it's necessarily "wrong". I sucked my thumb for a long time, too. My parents would put Tabasco sauce on my thumb, but it never worked. I would just wipe it off and go back to sucking on it again, so I don't recommend taking that route. Out of us 4 kids, I sucked my thumb the longest, yet I was the only one who didn't have braces. *knock on wood*
