I would prefer you should go for Desktop. See for playing Games, Playing movies Battery will be more consumed and without battery backup Laptop is of no Use. It depreciates it 100% values. On the Other Hand Laptop is more expensive, I think minimum configuration Laptop would cost around $ 1,000.00 and in that you could have a nice desktop having a very advanced feature. Playing Games, and Playing Movies Desktop would be capable. In desktop you will not struck down. While playing games or playing movies in desktop, you should not be worried about the battery backup, just go on. On purchasing the desktop of $ 1,000.00 you can have an extra ordinary graphics card, extra ordinary ram and Hard disk. While having an extra ordinary configuration, your desktop will process much more faster and you will get the satisfaction on spending your money. With an advanced configuration you can play the games having huge graphics and that too in a convinient way. You will be also pleased. Now the question is of having mobility of the Laptop, I would suggest to buy a thumb drive meeting with your capacity. Now a days everywhere you can find USB Ports. Hence the movability of the data/games/movies get easy and much more faster. Hence I would suggest that you buy a desktop and a thumb drive meeting with your requirements.

Since you are a college student, a laptop might be a better choice for you. It's portable, in many cases it's got similar storage capacities, and the key... being in college, you might be moving around a lot, whether to different dorm buildings or to new places to live. It's so much easier to move. Once you get into a more permament living arrangement, then you can consider a desktop.

I'm prefer with laptop. We can used it any where. As student, you may have assignment to do. So, with laptop, you can do it any where you want. You can do it at library while looking for reference or some thing else... so, as student i prefer for laptop.

I would prefer Desktop than Laptop. With about $800, you can get good specification desktop and save your money. Being mobile with laptop will consumes extra power from your battery. It's not a good idea. Good Specification of Desktop PC can handle all your needs, playing games, multimedia, graphics purpose, office, etc. But, if you still prefer to buy laptop, try to look at evertek.com / geeks.com for good quality refurbished laptop.

well if u wanna buy a computer then i would prefer a desktop coz fro playing games and watching movies u need a lot of time and power backup so it does not seem a nice option to choose a laptop for playing games and all. another thing is that if u wanna upgrade , then a desktop is a lot easier to manage that rather than a laptop coz to uupgrade a laptop isn't easy , u have to replace tha whole part of the machine which u wanna upgrade. and to play games u need a lot of ram and graphics card which u would need to change for every new game that comes in the next year so desktop is better for that . laptop is much expensive as compared to desktop and u would get a lot in a desktop rather than in a laptop in the same price . if u wanna hear good loud music with a good quality sound then u need to buy speakers of a good quality which would be better to install in a desktop than in a laptop coz u can't take those speakers around with u .And laptops don't provide much of a good sound quality experience . headphones are a choice butif only u wanna hear the music and movies. but if u move around a lot and can spend a few bucks more than buy a laptop of a good configuration , that it does not need to be updated for a long time .

being a college student, i think you should consider buying a laptop than a desktop.. it's really portable and convenient.. in my case, whenever i have school work that i haven't finished yet, i just bring my laptop with me and continue my school work whenever i have a spare time in school or at work.. but if you don't consider these things and you've got a lot of time, then buy a desktop.. it really depends on whether how you are going to use it.. good luck!
