I thought it would be the one's with the most activity. But I've seen lots on there with few responses, and I've seen one of my friend's with almost 100 responses that I didn't see on that list. How do they make it to the BIG list??

Well, the "top discussions" are the ones that were last responded to. It may only have one response, but it was responded to a minute ago. So, it will be on the top of the list. But, when something was responded to a second ago. The others will move down and others will move up. The recent discussions look like they are the same. But, many of them without responses.

Good Question - I'm glad you asked. I've been wondering the same thing.
I'm glad you asked that because I have been trying to figure this out for quite a while now. I couldn't figure out any logical explanation for the way things worked, and I wasn't going to give up until I got the mystery solved.
