yes this day has always been special to me.. it ranges between total depression to a maniac happiness.. i should get myself checked somtime..please remind me..lol well there are birthdays that i insist on being along and then i like to take a day off and go to a special trip in irael..it usually involves beautiful landscapes, swimming a good resturant and somewhere special to spend the night in. if i choose to send it with friends they usualyy take me to a resturant and to a show i wanted to go to for a long time but could not efford. if it envolves a partner it usually was a surprise vacation to one of the european countries:)

It is really wonderful and exciting to celebrate birthdays outdoors especially in beautiful natural surroundings such as by the lake, mountains or seaside. I like the idea of going on vacation to Europe !

That's good for you. I had been to Germany last year. Had visited the Berlin Wall and also the Pergamon Museum which is a World Heritage site.

When I was growing up my mom always made my birthday's special. That day would not pass without something being done. I alway had a cake and a party or did something special with my friends. I have very fond memories of those days and how much she did to make it special for me and make me feel like I was special too. Now I have a son of my own and he is 16 years old. I have done something huge for his birthday every single year. It costs me alot of money but it's worth it. I know he will always look back on that day as something special that I did for him. Some people think it's silly to have a big party for a child's birthday but I disagree. They are only children for so long - there are only a few years when you can get away with giving them big fancy parties because when they are older, it's not the same. I only have one child so maybe that is why I am able to do what I do for him - I'm not sure I could afford it if I had more than one. This past year for his 16th birthday we rented a huge cabin up in the mountains (in January) and took about 8 of his close friends with us to go snowboarding for 3 nights. I paid for everything and it was alot of money but it was everything he wanted and I'm just glad he had a great time. My husband and I do not do much for our birthdays. Normally we do something quiet and small at home just with our family. We go out to eat and have cake or something like that. My husband and I both have birthdays in September - just a few weeks apart - so a few years ago we had a huge party together to celebrate. It was a Mexican Fiesta party. We invited all of our friends and family - rented a margarita machine, decorated in mexican decorations and red light up chili lights all over. I cooked chicken enchiladas, chicken taquitos, guacamole, rice & beans for everything. We played games and had so much fun. My niece gave us a candy filled pinata for the party and all the adults got to hit it with a stick. It was such a great night! On the big birthdays 18,21,30,40 etc we always do something big in our family. My husband is turning 40 this year so I'm not sure what we'll do but I need to plan something. My brother is turning 50 next month and I think his children are taking him to Vegas to celebrate. I would go too but I can't afford it right now. Anyhow, that's what we do for birthdays!

Wow, that's great. You certainly know how to celebrate birthdays. Birthday parties are usually fun for children but adults can enjoy too. Hope you can plan a surprising birthday party for your husband. Las Vegas is an interesting place to visit but there are casinos to tempt people to gamble away their money.

Yes, we always try to celebrate mine or my husbands birthday. Usually we go out to a restuarant. I have to make a cake too, gluten free of course. This year I have to make a cake for my husbands workmates.I will make vanilla with chocolate gratings & strawberries on top. We don't do anything big for birthdays unl;ess it is special, like my 50th coming up next year. My daughters 14th birthday is in 3 weeks, and she uis having a big party.

Gluten free cakes are healthier. Have you heard of eggless cakes ? I think you deserve a grand 50th birthday party. Have a nice and fun celebration with your daughter's coming birthday. Before I forget, please extend my best birthday wishes to your daughter on my behalf :-)

It's not such a fanfare usually for birthday - unless the birthday kid is very young or old. :P Normally, we will just get together for a dinner, just an excuse for a little gathering. In the extreme case of the young or elderly, then we have "upgrade" it to a party instead. ;-)

A romantic candle light dinner can also be great for birthday celebrations :-) The young and elderly also deserve an enjoyable party.

I mean you can celebrate with your spouse (if you are married). Well, I won't be the lamp post ... unless a spot light is needed.
