we need help/advice...

O.K in just over a week we are going to be the proud owners of a baby english springer spaniel... she's absolutely gorgeous... we are slightly worried about a few things, like how we are going to house train her when we live in a flat {no garden} although i know it can be done!! Another thing we want to do with her is teach her to retrieve, my partner loves to go shooting and would like the dog to do the fetching, so any advice on teaching them to retrieve would be wonderful, also i have an 11 yr old son and im slightly worried about him undoing our good work with the puppy while our backs are turned... how have any of you got your children involved positively in raising a puppy?

I dont how you would toilet train in a flat, but the retrieving can be started now, start off small with a toy. Have your son involved in the training and explain it to him. Give him a chore to do like feeding that way its bonding as well. But at the same time just remember that she is a pup and there will be mischevious behaviour and teething. Training should be exciting and should be done in frequent short sessions to keep pup interested. Never hit or smack a dog, only treats or praise for good behaviour. Good Luck with it.
