Doesn't really matter what gender, a guy or a girl can be good friends in my opinion

Depends on what kind of friends you want. If you like shopping, chatting about people, love, relationships and feelings and you want someone to just to listen to you, then you should go for a girl.
On the other hand, if you like cars, video games, in-depth computer techy stuff and you want someone to help you solve your problems and are not afraid to be actually gross (lol), then you should go for a guy.
With these descriptions in mind, I go for guys. I love being a girl but there's something about guys that can make you leave your inhibitions out the door :)
