Do you think there are pedophiles who either come up with their own "fake" pages just to attract minors and do you think myspace can be abused by these people? What should the myspace admin do in order to protect children?

Of course there are. They show them on tv just about every day getting arrested for showing up at one of the kids houses. They are pigs. Sooner or later no parents are going to let their children be on my space. Anytime there is any kind of chat room there is always a pervert that shows up. It is disgusting. The kids want to have a place to talk to their friends and the pervs ruin it for them. Most of the parents make their kids have private pages so you have to be allowed to see that persons my space. But some kids dont. It is a parents responsibility to make sure their child is on my space doing the right thing. They can open a myspace account too and watch what the kids are doing. That is what most parents do.

Yes I think there are pedophiles on myspace, they are everywhere. But I don't know what myspace could do to protect children. One solution would be to restrict the site to adults? If I had a child who has the age to use a cumputer I wouldn't allow them to go on social networking sites like myspace.

I hope Myspace is doing its share to check if those over 18 are the only ones who can sign up. I think there's this exception for those under 13 years old but are supervised by parents who can still sign up...but of course we all know that this is not always the case. Thanks for your response! Are you on Myspace, by the way?

According to the rules, a person has to be only 14 but I know there are minors there - some are my neighbor kids. There aren't any checks done on age. I agree with others who say it is not MySpace's responsibility but that of the parents to monitor their children's activities.

I'm sure there are. But I don't think that is MySpace admin's problem. It's hard to catch those people. Instead parents should teach their kids to assume that anyone they don't personally know from school is someone they shouldn't meet.

Thank you for your response. However, would you agree if at least Myspace could accommodate alerts from other users like if that certain user believes that this profile is fake or if this profile sounds fishy or something? But yes I agree that guidance should always start from home.

Well of course there are pedophiles! They are everywhere! It is not the responsibility of myspace to protect our children or to deal with pedophiles. My children have myspace pages but are not allowed on their pages unless I am home and basically hovering over them. I know all the people on their friends list and I have the passwords to all of their pages, therefore I can go and sign into their pages anytime I want. I believe it is up to the parent to keep track of their children and to know who their children are talking to. I understand when they become older it is hard to do that, hopefully I have installed good morals into my children enough and frightened them enough about pedophiles that they will never make the mistake of being lured in by a pedophile. So as for your questions, no it is not up to myspace to protect our children. Thanks for the post.
