Nail biting

I have bitten my nails for as long as I can remember. It is a very nervous habit, and, obviously, made worse by stress. After graduation, I would like to make my first real effort to stop. Judging by the condition of my fingernails now, however, I do not think this will just be a matter of "letting them grow." They are hopelessly thin and soft, not to mention misshapen. I know it would help if I began my efforts with a professional manicure, but I am afraid a professional manicurist would run screaming out of the salon if asked to work on my hands. I am wondering if there are any resources available for nail-biters, or nail salons which specialize in treating them. I am trying to find something more than the traditional drugstore products. Also, if you have any advice on breaking such a tough habit, I would be happy to hear it.

i'm a nailbiter myself, and this trick is worth a try: have your nails done first, then apply artificial nails to allow your real nails to grow back. artificial nails are harder to break, so you might never want to chew them off again.
