The New Miss USA

United States
March 24, 2007 12:30am CST
Tara Connors days as the troubled Miss USA are over now. Tonight Miss Tennessee was crowned the new Miss USA. Donald Trump seemed absolutely giddy. It was almost sickening. Rachel Smith is a very poised young woman from what I saw. She is a journalism graduate from Belmont University in Tennessee. She also did a year's internship at the Oprah Winfrey show, which I found interesting. The other thing that blew me away was the panel of judges: Jerry Springer, "Blow Out" star Jonathan Antin, "E! News" co-host Giuliana De Pandi, MTV's Vanessa Minnillo; Baby Phat President Kimora Lee Simmons and Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss. HMMMM, can't figure out how some of these people got to be there. Did you watch the show? What do you think? Do you agree with pageants? Share whatever thoughts you have.

I watched some of it. The old story is, "money is power." And, "who you know." Well, that is how they got those people for the judges. I think that Miss Tennessee was lovely and bright. It was a difficult decision , as I loved the runner up too. But, overall, I think it was fair and she deserved to win. I rated you another ++ for a wonderful post. Keep it up creativedreamwearver.

Thank you margieanne. I really appreciate all your replies. I think she will hopefully be a good role model for young women. You are right though, it is a "money is power" thing. ++++ :)

Thanks meme. I don't watch them much anymore either, they have just gotten too overboard. I think Miss Tennessee will be a good representative from what I have seen, but who knows. I guess she will be on Oprah on Monday. As always my friend, I appreicate your input. :) +++

My father grew up in Atlantic City, so I know that Miss America was originally started to extend the tourist season to the end of September from Labor Day. I also haven't watched a contest in years. I think that pageants aren't BAD in & of themselves (tho it makes it hard on those of us who aren't/weren't beauties.) However, when they started the little girl pageants I start having a problem. I'd bet they are targets for pedophiles. So, I'm not sure about them today, I used to enjoy the talent portion of them that could prove the girls were well rounded or intellegent. I'd like them to have to provide grade point adverages for the younger girls. (I remember when I was in high school the younger sister of the valadictorian was winning beauty contests. She went on to get pass the bar exam.)

I also think they started out with a completely different perspective than what they have now. In the beginning they were to promote the aspirations of young women and their dreams. Now, they are more about just the looks and talent. I used to watch them all the time as a kid with my mom...it was a special night for us. I agree, kiddie pageants is taking it way to far and it is a basic open buffet for pedophilia. It also teaches our little girls that looks are whats important in life. Thanks for your response.

we used to live near Atlantic City and every year we would go to the Miss America Prade. It was a few days before the pageant. I liked Miss America, but I do not like Miss USA

I think Miss America is better as well. I'm not even sure why they started Miss USA, maybe just something else for Donald Trump to make money off of, lol. Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it.

I didn't watch it as I don't think that we should judge people by their appearance and as a parent of two girls, I don't want them to be pressured into thinking that they have to be beautiful, talented, and skinny to be a wonderful asset to society. I hope that this one is better than Tara as it seems that she is always into trouble and I personally think Donald Trump done wrong in not firing her.

I would agree with you, I think that she should have had to recind her title. It gives a bad impression to let her continue to reign. Back when pageants began, they were better and inspiring to young girls. It wasn't just about the looks and beauty aspect. It was about scholorships and helping them achieve their dreams. I feel they are a little out of hand now myself. I don't blame you for not wanting your girls subjected to that. Thank you very much for your response.
