Have you read the Bible?

I have never read the Bible. I am 33 years old, so I think it's ABOUT TIME. I have a list that gets you through the Bible in a year, and my friend bought me an awesome new Bible for Christmas. So I'm working through it. It gives you some OT, some NT, a Psalm, and a Proverb each day. I'm not going by the days because I'm REALLY behind. But that's ok, my goal is to read the Bible, not to read a certain section on a certain day. I think I'll read it again straight through when I'm finished with this program. I never realised how insightful it is, and what wonderful things are held in that lovely book!! It's interesting and keeps me curious, just hard to understand sometimes.

Yes but only parts of it.I guess I have to start reading more and more of it.The bible is the word of God.How can I communicate with him if I do not read the word of God.The bible says in John 1:1 In the beginning was the word. And the word was with God.And the word was God.It is only by reading the bible that I can communicate with God.He speaks and answers you through his word in the bible. If we are christians we should read and meditate on the word of God as often as possible.

Yes, I have read the Bible but there are books there that I haven't digested so much. There are lots of benefits reading the Bible. I'ts like when we read an inspirational book. It's advices and inspiration become part of our practices and habits. The Bible writers were spiritually inspired that its messages are so powerful that it really has the power to change a person for the better. The Bible is the Book of Books where you can find lots of wisdom from all walks of life. A gloomy person can be lighted and bloomed if he/she continually reads the Bible. Bible should be read with sincere and open mind, this should not be read for the sake of information but for the sake of TRANSFORMATION. Continous reading of the Bible can make a person professional in manners, cheerful, full of knowledge and wisdom, sharp in every details, courteous, kind, humble and all that good characters we are looking for a person. But once you stop the habit of reading, you are still fully charged but will come to a point that your power will diminish and become low battery just like a cellular phone and will finally you will go back to that same old person when you were started but it will takes years. I said this because I have experienced it.

I sometimes feel like I don't digest any of it very well. But I keep going and when God needs to revels something to me through the scriptures, then he will. I feel that I need to read it again, once I finish, because I can tell that I will pick up more the next time around. There is so much packed onto those thin little pages. Hidden messages, words of wisdom... It's just fascinating!!

Yes some parts of the Bible are hard to understand but it has so many interesting things in it. It's amazing to, that when you get finish reading and go back and read a scripture again that you have already read, you will learn something new that you didn't get the first time you read it. I'm glad you decided to read the Bible.

Yes I've read the Bible many times, over and over again. My mom took us to church when we were small. And was I also taken by my father's uncle. Then when I became eight years old my father began going to church and got saved. Then he became the superintendant of Sunday school. Then a Deacon. And later he entered Bible School and became an ordained preacher. So I was taken to church by him also and we had Bible study at home on Saturday afternoons. So I thank God for giving me parents who studied the Bible and taught it to us.

Even though you started late, atleast you have given a chance to read it. Not everyone has the chance to read the BiBLe. It maybe hard because of things we need to do, but if you set aside a portion of your time atleast 10 mins a day, for sure you'll be able to finish it. Take your time and enjoy the word of God. There are more stories, knowledge and other things that you would know after you have finish reading it. the nice thing about the Bible is that when you finish reading it and read it once again, you will still be able to get something from it, with a deeper meaning. Enjoy reading!^-^

My husband reads it out loud to me when we are feeling down and the world feels like it is crashing around our feet. It's comforting in a way and it really gets us thinking and talking. There really is way too much in it to take in even in one year. It's a long book.

Although I have never read the bible or even intend to do so there are so many pretty hard to believe but amazing stories in the bible. To me theres no way to prove any of that is true since through out hundreds of years the bible has been changed and added to along the way. Also how come other countries bibles dont have the same disasters in them. What I mean is how come all the bibles from all religions arent somewhat the same since the same kind of disasters would of have effected their cultures at the time to. Theres just to much in the bible to be proven so in order to follow something like that I would first need definite proof that it really happened before I would be a believer.

I know what you are saying, and I have thought things like this before. So many cultures have their own forms of a bible, and to them, their's is the only true one. I wondered if the 'Quran' (is that spelled right?) is maybe just another form/translation of our Bible, but I am thinking now that it isn't. So, yeah, it's all kinda confusing. I guess the best way to try to clear up the confusion would be to take a class to learn more about them all, and the differences.

I read it cover to cover at least once...I wanted to be able to say that yes, I had read the Bible! LOL. I might have read it twice. I've focused quite a bit on the New Testament. And the Psalms have lots of prayers and petitions to God that almost sound like I personally could have said it. Good to read when you are down. When I found that too much time passed and I wasn't reading as much, I began listening to the Bible on cd at work. I can listen to at least one gospel during a day's work. And everytime I listen, or every time I read a passage...it says something to me that I missed before. There is always new things to learn!

Just from the little bit I've read (Feels like I've read SO MUCH, yet I'm only in Exodus in the OT and still in Matthew in the NT), I can tell that I'd like to read it again. Just learning from the examples is neat.

I've been an on-again-off-again Bible reader for the past several years. It's a shame, because I know how much better off I am when I'm regularly delving into the scriptures and learning more about God. Toward the end of last year I finally decided that it's time I learn some discipline in this area, and now I read every morning, whether I feel like it or not. It's funny because on the mornings I really don't want to do my Bible study, about five minutes after I open my Bible I am always glad I did! So kudos to you for making that step to get started. May you be blessed for your efforts!

Thanks! I do most of my reading while at work. Unfortunatly, MyLot has put a bit of a crimp in my Bible-reading time, so I need to get myself more disciplined in that area.

I hate to admit it but I have never read the bible either and I'm 26. I do want to but I never have the time. I know you are probably thinking, "Take the time." I have been really curious lately and have been really thinking about it. I started to one time but I wasn't able to understand it very good. I think one day I am just going to sit down and forget about the computer and start reading. :)

I am a Roman Catholic but I don't read the Bible that much. When I was in College, I would read a passage or two in the Bible as my guidance for the day. But now that I'm too busy with so many things I don't have time anymore to do so. Or maybe that's just my excuse because I can still watch tv when my kids are having their nap. I'm one of those guilty people who refuses to read knowing that I've already read that before. My dad is a full pledged Catholic and he's reading the Bible everyday. When we're eating together he would quote some of the passages from the Bible and relate happenings in our present world to those from the Bible. He's often right with his opinions and he would always end up saying we should be see that everything happening now is signs of times. In other words, he would say the end is near. Well, hopefully not.

I never read a bible yet! But I believe, by time, I'll open the holy book and I'll understand inside it. I admit i have difficulties in understanding it when I was in high school.

I am 18, and as much as I want to, it really is hard for me to understand, but the teen bibles and stuff, I just dont like. I use to read the bible with my dad and we would kinda talk about it, as well with the church we went to. We would read a little bit ever week and he would discuss it and explain it. That was great! It really is an amazing book when you break it down. Theres a lot of almost " secretive " things in there, that you find several times after reading it.

As a christian woman I read the bible to know some common things what was advised in the bible. In church during pray priest read it and from him I can know some thing. While people like to read a book why not will not read their religious book? Whatever reading bible many peoples cannot not follow its advise due to change of lifestyle in modern age. The bible say do not do such and such things but we are doing this so what is result of reading that is my question in mind.

There are guides on how to read the Bible and how one can reflect on what someone is reading. The Daily Bread or Daily Devotional can make you understand more the things wrtitten in it. But prayer and reflection are the best guides in reading the Bible.

I use the guide that helps you read the Bible in a year. I also have a daily devotional that I really like.

What version of the Bible do you have? If it's the King James Version, it is pretty hard to get. I reference it from time to time, as it is the oldest English translation I know of, but I use the New Living Translation usually.

I have a "New Spirit Filled Life" Bible. It's a King James Version, but had lots of resoarces to help you learn and know what you are reading. It has definitions, and inserts called "Kingdom Dynamics" that delve into certain parts of the text. Then there are the explinations for some of the passages at the botteom of each page, and cross references. I honestly have no idea what of these is common in a Bible, but I like these "extra's" in mine. It helps me understand so much more than I would without them.
