How Often Do you Go to the Movie Theaters?

I go to the movies every here and there but I'm telling you the prices of going to the movies is really rising in price, right along with purchasing popcorn, drinks and such. If it's a movie I just have to see I will go, but alot of times, I just wait for it to come out on DVD and it's cheaper. Right now the going price to watch a movie around my area is 9.50 (adult) 6.50 (child) 7.50 (senior) And every so often the price slowly keep creeping up. I remember when it was 5.50 to go to a regular movie and not even a matinee. How often do you go to the movie theaters? Is it the same price in your area? Does the prices discourage you from going and rather wait to see it once it comes out on DVD? What are your thoughts?

Interesting. The movie ticket actually costs the same in US and Singapore. Here, the peak price is $9.50. And no, the cinemas stopped the child categories LONG AGO. If a child wants to catch a show, it's the same price. And no, neither is there special discount for senior citizens. I do remember a time when tickets were more affordable. It is really heart-bleeding to catch a movie nowadays. For half the time, I just rely on movie vouchers redeemed from my card. :P

I watch movies at theaters occassionally. At our place it's not that costly. There are many promotions on mobiles to get free tickets and it's pretty easy ,actually. All you do is answer some right questions and if your answers are right ,you get to participate in a draw to win mobiles. If your name doesn't feature in the draw ,then they still send 15 people movie tickets for a new movie. I do watch DVDs as well and it's fun .I also download a few movis from internet. These are the ones we ( me and my friends ) want to watch instantly, lol. When the dvd is out on rent and we aren't feeling like struggling in the traffic we turn to the mighty internet, lol.

HAHAHA I wish we had something like that with our mobiles. It's very expensive here. I mean I will go if I just HAVE to see this movie. That's really cool with the promotions, I wouldn't mind participating in something like that

I do not go as often as I used to go. I used to go once or twice a month when the prices were more reasonable but now I only go when I see a really good movie coming out or hear about one. It is very costly to go either at day or night. My next movie will probably be in May when Spiderman 3 comes out. I also never get concessions due to those costs as well. It is cheaper to wait and watch it on dvd rental or pay per view or cable.

I don't go very often. Probably the only time is when their is a new kids movie and I take my daughter for a treat. It is just so darn expensive. My son and his girlfriend go all the time. There are many I would like to see but I don't go. I wait for it to come out on DVD and by the time it does I forget the names of the ones I wanted to see. LOL

Watching from DVDs and in cinemas are both two very different experience. You get into a very good atmosphere when you are immersed into the movie with a whole room of enthusiasts. Laugh and get shocked together. DVDs can't achieve that. Even though DVDs are more economical, I will still prefer to go to the theaters. And, I would prefer catching the movie once it appears in the box office rather than wait and hear the stories from your friends and then procure the DVD when you already know half of the story already. I used to go to the movies almost every week, years ago when the price is affordable. When the price starts to increase, I limit my visits. Now, practically, I do not go to the movies as i find it very costly just to watch a show. Watching from a DVD is very much cheaper. Imagine for a family of 4, how much savings there will be from watching a DVD. Even for 2, there are some savings, unless of course, I just want to absorb myself in the big screen, cool aircon and nice comforting seats :P

Well I go to the theaters approximately two or three times a week. I go to movie screenings for free. I don't really mind but just imagine going to so many and getting tired of them. By the way when a movie comes out called "Superbad" do yourself a favor and go see it. It's freaking hilarious. Nonstop fo show.

I refuse to pay the exhorbitant prices for movie viewing. Unless it is something really big or hubby and I are celebrating some special occassion, we will not go to the movies. We wait for movies to come out on DVD. Fortunately, one of newest perks of my job (college professor) is a 'movie night' where college students and faculty get in free. I may start going more often now, as we will only have to pay for hubby's ticket.

I can't even remeber the last time I went to the movies...as far as I can it was about 6 years ago ..there is no movie out there that i want to see bad enough to pay $7-8 for ..I can use my star on demand for alot less and that would be the cost of starz for six months ...plus save the gas to go too...I am cheap ain't I ...lol I don't watch enough TV to really even have the starz package added to my account but they do have a great kids section..my little one loves Eloise and they have her on almost evey week ...If I relly like amovie and I wil watch it more than once I will go and buy the dvd ..but i will noy go the movies to see it ...there are many movies that i haven't seen yet but I am still alive and well ...my eighteen year old thinks that she will die if she doesn't get to to see then newer movies that have come out ...lol I just have to laugh at her and say well its your money but I know I could put $15 worht of gas in my truck before i would pay that musch to go to the movies...between the movies, the gas ,and your snacks its almost a small fortune now a days ...so I will stay at home and just watch whatever whenever ..plus I can prop my feet up at home while watchinga movie...lol

Yes, I feel the same way you feel. I rather wait and get a good movie from Blockbuster or Netflix. My own cheap popcorn, drinks, and can be just as happy...lol Don't even have to go anywhere. These prices are really getting to be something

Almost every week with my boyfriend. Both of us are really into movies and would love to go out even once a week to have a movie date. hehe It's really nice to watch on the big screen but yeah prices are increasing, I can see the gradual change of prices. If we can't go to the theatres then we just watched movies at home eating just anything, lying down and no one to catch us sleeping.. Prices doesn't discourage us much but I know that it would partly affect on how much money we have..

With my small allowance, I don't go to movies anymore unless I really like to watch the movie. Renting DVDs can save about 70% of what you spend on movie theaters.

I have not been to the movies in a very long time. I received gift cards for 2 movie theaters but have not went yet. My wife and I need to find a babysitter and go though. It seems there aren't as many movies that are must see so it seems like a wast of money to go. With ticket prices and the price of the candy, you are looking at around $25. I believe the last time my wife and I went to the movies, we went to the dollar theater. We are fortunate to have one of those around here. They play movies that have just stopped playing at the bigger theaters so they are still new, and yes the movie is only a dollar. The two biggest factors holding us back are the cost of movies and finding time to go.

Watching movies on the big screen is really something, it is a better experience. However it is true that the price of tickets are really going up and its kinda hard on the pocket. We are only able to watch movie on the big screen twice a year. we really choose the film that we're going to watch and we set a budget for it.

I don't go to movies now that I have kids. Unlike before when I was still in College when I can go and watch a movie thrice a week. Believe or not the last movie I saw was Superman Returns. Though going to the movies here is not really expensive since the fee is only almost $2 (converted to dollars). I still cannot find time to go and watch a movie of my type.

For me if I get a good review of a movie I do not mind watching it on a big screen with my closest friend or my hubby .. some popcorn and sandwiches alongside .. my idea of a fun movie .. well if the movie isnt very great its better watched on DVD than in the theatre since I dont want to be disappointed when I come out of the movie hall saying oh what a waste that was ! Reviews work for me .. i dont rush into watchin a movie in any case ..

Yes, but sometimes for me the reviews don't do it, the trailors do it for me. even though sometimes they ONLY put the good parts in it..lol

I haven't been to the cinema for MANY years, i live in the country now so the closest one is a long drive from here, they're also very expensive & even if i had the money to go, i also have a baby to think of & whether there's even anything i want to see. For me, i bought a big TV with a surround sound system so i just hire the movies when they come out on DVD & can sit at home with my much cheaper popcprn & drinks & enjoy them in the comfort of my own home!

Yeah, I know for me the price is the reason I don't go as much as I use to. It's too much now to go to a movie. I can see it being 10.00 one day soon already. Everything is just getting higher and higher

Yup! it keeps getting higher. Here in the Philippines, it goes up 20 pesos in just a year. It's really sad. Me and my girlfriend always tried to go to movie houses every week. I prefer it over DVDs because sounds and the wide screen really helps to get you entertained and enjoy the movie. Unless you have great entertainment room in your house then go for the DVD. Just also like to try the IMAX thing for the upcoming Spiderman 3. Hope i could get a seat just in time. :)
