What items do you pack in your suitcase when going on a week long vacation?

What do you normally pack in your suitcase or carry on baggage when you are traveling? Obviously we pack clothes but what else do you bring along with you. Do you pack lightly or bring a lot of things with you? Do you plan on bring back more items than you took with you to that destination? Are there still limitations on what you can take with you because of terrorism?

I carry my mini closet if it is a week long vacation.... kidding. But apart from clothes I usually carry all kind of toiletries this irks me cos there are just too many things in this department, small things (floss), pointy things (tweezers), leaky things (mouthwash), oh it never ends, a pair of nice shoes (formal), a thick Sheet as I can not sleep on the spring matteresses and since I am no Donald Trump the hotel is no way going to provide me with an alternate bed set. So I just put the comforter down on the floor and sleep peacefully. A good book ( which is mostly purchased at the airport), Ipod, Camera, and all kinds of battery chargers, common medicines, a pack of cards ( if it is with friends ), travelling papers, maps to places I plan to visit. I guess that's all to it and funny even if I were to go for 2 days I most certainly would be carrying most of the stuff! and nothing I pack has ever caused me trouble so the terror scare has not affected me at all! and yes I come back with more stuff... what would be a holiday if I did not bring some souvenirs like postcards & t-shirts. but apart from that I do remember to buy speciality of the region.

Those are all good things to pack as well as I am thinking about what I am going to take with me on my trip next week. I have some ideas what to bring other than my clothes. I am definitely going to bringing things home from my trip so I will need to leave some room for extra items.

I do pack one of those foldable bags into my luggage just incase if buying gifts gets out hand! so if incase it happens I just unfold the bag, unzip a few zippers and lo there stands a add on all ready to be packed with stuff!

oh and ofcourse these days all airlines insist on 2 check in baggages each weighing no more than 30 pounds! if it is they will ask you to repack your bags right there! best is put everything into your checkin baggage it saves you a lot of time and also heartache. another thing is do not buy liquids before you pass security if you do have to buy some juice or water you are asked to consume the whole thing or trash it before you walk through security.
so good luck flying.

When I go on vacation ..I like to travel light..since I know I usually pick up things..like souvernirs etc. I always come back from vacation with more then I start with.
I dont take any liquids..like if I am flying..since they will get tossed.
I do take a few good books to read in case I have some boring moments.

i will certainly let everyone know how my vacation went when I get back. I may be able to peek in a little bit while I am gone but not very much. I will be taking some of those things but not all of them. :-) I am taking a couple of my drawings that I made for my niece and nephew as well.

I never go on vacation anymore. But, when we did, we went in a RV. No suitcases required. We did pack up clothes, food, towels, personl items, and such. No limitations our way, or worries about terrorism. We will never fly now. Have a great day my friends. Blessings.

I am sorry that you are not able to go on vacation but hope that will change in the near future as you and your husband deserve to get away and see other places as well. That is a good way to travel if it is not too far and somewhat safer though there are many bad drivers out there.

lol More so what don't I take?? lol
A couple books, my camera, the laptop, all the plug in stuff (cell phone, laptop, DS), my DS, too much bathroom stuff and oh my the list could go on. lol I am trying to be better about what I pack. But I can't help cause what if we need it? I don't want to have to buy it when I know I could have brought it.
I usually do bring back more from vacation then I took with me cause you know you have to shop while you are away!!

Hmmm i try to pack a lot of things when i go for week long vacations. Actually i stay far away from my family so, when ever i go back home for vacations i have to buy lots of stuffs for my parents, brothers and sisters. And from my side also i carry a lot of photos to show them how i have been away from them. And the one thing i cannot live without is my make up kit lolz.

I am going to pack enough for the week and make sure I have room for things that i may buy while I am there. I have been to Texas before to visit my family but it is a different city so I am sure to be getting some souvenirs. I just saw my family back in January so it has not been long since we last saw each other. I see you have a new picture up. :-)

For starters, yes there still are limitations as to what we can take during travel times. The size of our lotions, hairsprays and such, No lighters, huge bottle waters etc..
As for me packing, I have 2 bags, one for nothing but my shoes, make-up and accessories and the other one for clothes...lol
Depending on where I'm going I try to pack light. If I'm visiting family or friends, I leave a little extra for things I buy when I'm away, If I'm going somewhere I never been before, I normally try not to pack too too much, because I know I will be bringing back more...

Geez...when I travel to my homeland for vacation or family visit, I'll probably take the whole house too if I could....hehehe. Normally, my suitcase will be loaded with tonz of souvenir for everybody...almost enough for the whole neigbourhood if necessary....hehehe. Over weight happens all the time, sometimes I have to pretend that my hand luggage is so light...ughhh (I survived, thanks to the small wheel under my hand luggage..phew). Same stories goes on on the way back home....loaded loaded loaded...

I bring the usual shampoo, soap, etc, but i also bring sunscreen books or mags, and little gifts if I am going to someone's house. As for restrictions, I know they have gotten rid of some of the restrictions. I would call up the airline to find out what restrictions are still being enforced.

That is a very good point as I just want to know if I can take my cell phone with me or not. It has been a while since the last time I was on a plane. Those are good things to bring. I may bring some books or maybe my artwork materials to work on while I am down there. I definitely am bringing some toiletries.

i find it very difficult to pack i always pack too much but if im going for a week i take some things for the day and some for the night then my beauty items and accessories a couple of bags some hair makeup and jewellry i hate carrying heavy bags and go to europe quite a lot now for a few days so i just pack light so i dont have to carry a lot of things and then if i have some money i buy when im there like that i can buy some things from the country im visiting here you have to pack your lotions and perfumes or any liquids over 100ml in your suitcase or you have to put them in a plastic bag the airport gives you if you go by plane theyre quite strict you can only take 1 small bag on the plane but i think theyve lifted some of the bans now im not sure id have to check
