Do you avoid replying to discussions to keep your posts higher on the page?

I do this quite often, when i start off a discussion and i get responses on it, i try to avoid replying to other discussions in the same interest, i prefer to look for new topics in other interests, so that my discussion doesnt get pushed back.. i know its really cheap and mean to do this.. but after i get a decent number of responses or if i am not getting any responses, i go on to reply other discussions from that interest.. does anyone else share the same bad thinking?? ;) (i wont rate you negative if you tell me that i am being mean!!)

I have never thought of such thing and even after knowing it from you I will never do such things.Infact I have never cared for how much responses the discussions started by me are getting but I sometimes wonder how quite ordinary discussions soon started getting so many responses.

thats a noble thought, good to see less selfish people around.. :) its not about ordinary discussions getting more responses, it actually depends on various factors such as-- if the question is interesting to catch ones attention immidiately.. if the topic isnt too personal or too difficult to answer.. if it asks for individual experiences or opinions.. if all these conditions are satisfied.. i think the discussion should get a good number of responses.. thanks for your response!

Yes you are right the topic of the discussion should not be too difficult or should not require too much thinking. Then the discussions get good responses.

I have never done this at all. This is one strategy which never crossed my mind at all. Perhaps there are only a few of you who are doing this here in mylot. In fact, I believe that you are the first one here who has brought up this subject.

i hope i wont be killed for doin this.. lol.. but seriously, i ve been doin this unknowingly since some time, with no bad intentions as such.. i just used to choose the discussions i wanted to reply to from a different interest.. its not that big a deal.. but i just wanted to know if anyone else also did this!

I have never thought of in this way, maybe because I was never very much thinking about the top discussions and posts. More importantly, I post topics very rarely, I find it more easier to respond to others' discussions, but there is nothing bad in it.

Well, i usually do not start a topic that someone else has.. That is if i know of it... Im not sure what i would do if i see that someone else has or had created a discussion that is the same or similar to mine.. In tht case perhaps i would post something depending on the discussion going on there. Though usually what happens is that i would already have written down my mind on one discussion and feel it would be pointless to go to each and every discussion to post the same thing everywhere. Nonetheless i dont think what you are doing can be called cheap or mean.. tht would be a bit too harsh. And the fact that you are admitting it is a proof enough that your thinking isnt exactly "bad".

helloooo... slow down man!!!!! read the question first and then answer. we are not talking about anyone copying discussions of anyone else... please, i would be the last person on mylot to do it, please read the question, it says that "do you avoid replying to others' discussions so as to keep your discussion active in a particular interest" tell me what your native language is... i ll try to translate!

LOL ur right.. i actually read interest as discussion.. anyway, well in that case ur thinking is totally bad . hehehehe. .kidding. seriously, Nopes iv never thought of it too.. perhaps thats why the misunderstanding.. But for all we know ..many ppl out there doing the same.. everyone likes to see their discussion topping the concerned interest..

Eh, I don't think it's really that mean. I don't think it really suits me, since I still get responses to things and it still increases your number post number to respond to other people's stuff. There's also a chance of them rating your comment high or giving you a best response, and I'm sure that's probably worth something.
