What's Your Big Political Issue?

I've been trying to figure out how to have a political discussion on here without bashing countries or each other. I think it can be done if we stick to the issues, speak only for our own countries and don't specifically name any politicians. So...What will be the defining issue for the next national election in your country and how would a candidate have to address that issue to get your vote? Since the term "defining issue" is relative to individual definition, there can be many issues within the same country. Americans will have an exceptionally large choice since the Shrub will undoubtedly be leaving us with a lot of unresolved problems. (See how I didn't name him specifically) For me the issue is Health Care. I think the current American system is inadequate, broken beyond repair and needs to be scrapped. I'm looking for a candidate willing to take on the task of building a new National American Health Care Program. How about you? What's your big political issue and how would your ideal candidate handle it?

Health care is so important for the millions of people who cannot afford it. I know that the Child Health Plus, and other Child health insurance plans have come about so that at least the children can get care if their parents have no health insurance. Medical care is just so expensive. I am not sure what needs to be done to change things, but change is indeed needed. When senior's have to choose between medication and food, food or heat, it is a poor situation. When a parent cannot get the medication their sick child needs because they cannot afford it, that is not right either. The insurance companies seem to have the upper hand - and the cost is so high, even in company sponsored plans. But I think the WELFARE REFORM issue and the ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT issue is probably a bigger issue for me, if not on the same level. Those three need to be dealt with immediately. Heck, then throw in GLOBAL WARMING, and there is a whole heaping plate of problems to work on!

Personally, I feel we desperatly need to reform our healthcare plans. I think that everyone that is a US citizen deserves healthcare and should be able to afford it without spending ones entire paycheck on it! I am really interested in what the "I feel pretty" man has to say. I also love his wife and the courage she has and think they could do alot for us. I also think that "Mr. N.Y.-911" and his wife could bring some good ideas to the table since she is a R.N. and knows some of the problems that we are having in healthcare. I'm sorry, I tried not to name names, but my nicknames are goofy!LOL!

There are so many issues here in the U.K. Should we give even more of our powers to the EEC (and lose a lot of national ones) so that we will eventually end up in a United States of Europe? Will the NHS survive in its present form? Will Scotland become independant of the U.K.? Will Carbon and congestion Taxes become so heavy that there will be no travel anywhere in the U.K.? Will the next government be as full of slease as the last two were? Will the present P.M. end up a millioraire or a jail bird over the cash for peers scandal? Will I be accused of Treason for the last statement?

Mylot is internet turf and you can't be tried for treason here because no country has jurisdiction...I never knew there was a movement to make Scotland independent of the UK. That's interesting. I thought it was just the Irish and they only got have out.

Yes there is a Political Party called SNP, who are tipped to win the elections to the Scottish Parliament ( a kind of devolved assembly which has a number of powers see http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/home.htm you can also see the debates at http://www.holyrood.tv/ ) and if they win by enough then they will hold a referendum to make Scotland totally independent. The next election to this is in May.

National Health Care is definitely my number one issue. I think illegal immigration is going to be a huge issue also.

My biggest issue is illegal immigration. It is by far the biggest security risk we face in the United States. Almost all politicians have taken a lackidasical stance on this ranging from turning their heads to immunity for those who have already broken the law. My ideal candidate will bolster security by building a wall along the border and prosecuting/deporting ALL who illegally cross the border THE FIRST TIME. As it stands today one has to break the law 6 times before being arrested.

I definitely think illegal immigration will play a huge part in the next election. To my thinking, the worst punishment should go to the Americans who hire illegal immigrants. If they weren't willing to break the law, there would be no problem. Nobody is going to come here to starve. These employers not only break the law hiring illegals, they also cut the throat of the American small businesses trying to pay descent wages and give benefits to their employees.

Oww sorry late respond my friend. My country belongs to the 3rd world country underdeveloped, relies aids from first world and loans from the world bank yet amidst that we are consider the no.1 corrupt country in asia additional injury to the poor ailing country. The question lies not on natural resources nor the literacy of the people in my country more than 90% of Filipinos are literate and very intelligent and when they do venture and work outside the country they become expert and they prosper. What made my country what it is now today is the cancer that killing it since the early years corruption and red tape. Our country was leading to nowhere because more of the government officials run for the position not for public service but public betrayal and that worries me a lot because lot's of proffessional and skilled filipinos are eyeing to migrate in other country because our country never learn to step forward.

I've got information on a candidate that intends to take care of our healthcare issues if elected. www.ronpaulexplore.com For me, the issues are all homebased and really have nothing to do with other countries. My issues are healthcare, price gouging, NAFTA, The North American Union (open borders), the border patrolmen that are doing hard time for doing their Constitutional Duty, the FEMA camps surrounded in barbed wire like prisons (what's the need in that? aren't those camps for people who lose their homes in disasters?? what's the need in the sniper shacks & barbed wire fences???)...it just goes on and on. Good idea to try an bring this up in a non-confrontational way. Hat's off to ya, IrishEyes :)

I went to the link you provided but the site is down for updating. I actually have a candidate in mind who has a long standing commitment to heath care reform and who is a Demnocrat. I was happy to see that your guy is a Republican (that much info was available) since I think this heath reform is going to require need politicians from both sides of the aisle. (I'll check the web site later and see what his ideas are) Already labor & big business is on the same side demanding reform. If Walmart is willing to join a coalition headed by a labor union president, then Republicans & Democrats should also be able to work together on this. It's very encouraging to think that they can.

My big political issue is about my state. I think lots of the old man on my state is fool and stupid. Why I said like that?? Because the answer is I think the people like them don't know to thanked the country governant. They only choose the criteria the stupid president. I don't know why they like the president like this. The good choise is I think they should choose the main governant president. Then, my state do not have any best community for all people on my state.

Yes well I live in Australia and yesturday here it was our state elections well their were 2 main political parties, against each other although their are other parties trying their best to get into politics to get the people's views over to change things, and well the one that I voted for have been in power for 12 years and won again last night and the reasons why I voted for this one was due to they have put in more police, which is great they doing something about our water problems, and they have put more doctors into our hospitals, and another great thing they have started is to put trade into our schools so that when the students complete high school then they will only have to do 1 year to receive their certificates and can start working and receiving a proper income more quicker.

The war in Iraq. This war is costing us 3 billion dollars per week and I don't see any progress being made. Just today, 5 American soldiers were killed and 3 are missing. What good is all our financial and human sacrifice if these people don't want us there. I don't see any military solution to this problem. These people hate us, they hate each other and they hate democracy. I say let them have their civil war and live like the predators that many of them are. Lloyd
