I've got to start thinking about what I'm getting my girlfriend for her 21st birthday. I've been with her nearly four years now but I'm useless at looking for gifts. For my 21st birthday she took me away for a weekend in Venice. I want to get something really great but I can't think what. If anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful to hear them.

something personalized.. that would be soo sweet. and what do you think would she really really want. actually, you're the only person to answer this question since you'd know her a lot more than we do.. so, there.. just be creative. and add a touch of you! if you want more tips.. here's a post about cute valentine gifts, some may apply as your gift for her. http://barncogitations.blogspot.com/2007/02/unique-sweet-and-cute-gift-ideas.html

I guess I can't give you any specific ideas, since I don't know anything about your girlfriend's personality. Being a good gift-giver can be really difficult, so don't feel inadequate for not knowing what to get. It's obvious that you care a lot for her as you want to do something really special. You really just need to listen carefully for clues whenever you are with them and write them down so you don't forget them when their birthday or another holiday comes around. If you can't think of anything that she really wants or needs, sometimes it helps to ask for suggestions from someone who's know her for a long time, such as a family member or close friend. They might have ideas that you never would have thought of on your own. You might want to surprise her with a nice romantic weekend, like she did for you, or even just one night. You could go to a nice dinner at a restaurant she's been dying to go to and go see a show or something. Just make sure that you show her that you put a lot of thought into it. Also, a day at a spa is a gift that a lot of women would appreciate (manicure, massage, pedicure, makeover, etc.). Most women love to feel pampered, but would never take the time or money to do something like this for themselves. Whatever you come up with, just make sure that it is unique and catered to her specifically.
